Hi there,
Save hours of searching online or wasting money on unnecessary repairs by talking to a 6YA Expert who can help you resolve this issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.

I don’t understand how to sew collar on in B 6107. I’m confused by whether I sew to facings and how I turn collar inside out

Hello, Joyce -

I hope I am correct in understanding you are referring to Butterick pattern 6107. If so, I don't own that particular pattern and accompanying instructions. Am I also safe to assume you do not have the sheet of written instructions with images to accompany the garment pattern? In case you have the pattern pieces but not the sheet of instructions, you may wish to contact the McCall Pattern Co. (Butterick is one of their brands) directly via email here: https://butterick.mccall.com/how-reach-us . Note: They may charge for replacement instructions.

In the meantime, assuming I am correct about your sewing Butterick pattern 6107, I see the coat has 2 collar styles - 1 a shawl collar and 1 a stand up collar.

If you are sewing the shawl collar version, perhaps this online tutorial (with pictures) on sewing a shawl collar will be instructive:
http://sewastraightline.com/2010/10/21/shawl-collar.html

If you are sewing the stand up collar version, this online tutorial (with pictures) may provide the right instruction: http://everythingsewing.blogspot.com/2013/03/adding-stand-up-collar.html

If neither of those resources seem helpful, then you may find an experienced sewer in your neighborhood who will offer to help show you what to do. How to go about that:
- If you are not already a member of the neighborhood web site Nextdoor.com, I recommend you join it (free.) You will be able to identify and limit your "neighborhood" when you register.
- Once you are a Nextdoor.com member, post a question asking if someone in your neighborhood could instruct you in how to sew the kind of collar you wish to sew. Note: I recommend using the private message feature to share addresses and phone numbers.
- There will probably be a kind neighbor or two who will be willing to come to your home and demonstrate to you one-on-one on how to sew the collar and turn it out.

If you would rather not follow the Nextdoor.com route, then, my last option is for you to contact the local public school system and ask for then name and contact information for the person / people who teach sewing (probably in middle school / junior high school) in the school system. Then contact a sewing teacher and ask her/him if you can arrange a lesson with her/him on how to sew your collar. I recommend offering to pay for the teacher's time.

Best wishes.

To make a Faroese shawl, do you start from the top or the bottom?|

Most shawls are begun at the neck, but Faroese shawls are begun from the bottom by casting on hundreds of stitches. As the work progresses, structural decreases between the side panels and back gusset reduce the number of stitches until very few remain at the neck.

Help! I have really fat arms and I am getting married next year. What kind of dress can I buy that wont make them look worse.

Don't panic - lots of women are under confident about their upper arms. Avoid cap sleeves or an off the shoulder look which will only highlight the issues. Choose a long or three quarter length sleeve, in a sheer illusion fabric that will cover up your arms without 'hiding' them altogether.

I've got a serger by Brother and I got fabric

the serger probably needs to be checked at a sewing machine shop
to see if the machine is out of time & to make sure the loopers
aren't damaged

What causes the bottom stitch to look like it's catching the material when I sew?

try changing the needle--flat side to the back of the machine
the needle & thread & fabric have to be compatable
light weight fabric requires a different needle than medium to heavy weight fabric
if you do not have a manual check with bernina customer service about one
or
sewing partsonline.com
try a top tension of 3 or 4
clean under the needle plate & in the bobbin area for loose thread or lint

Problem with foot going over differing heights of fabric at seam joint and feed dogs barely gripping fabic enough

I've been sewing for over 30 years, if it were me & I bought a Bernina & that happened I'd take it back & find out why it happened.
I'd take a piece of the fabric & thread & let them sew it & see what happens.
a machine like that should sew so good, you'd be saying look what I sewed, instead of this can't be happening...

I needle comes unthreaded whenever we try to sew. We've both tried numerous times and it doesn't make a sitch. The bobbin seems to be done correctly b/c the bottom thread comes up with no problem....

first let's deal with the needle becoming unthreaded, Keeping the needle threaded is easy, always keep thread tails of 3 to 6 inches on the top thread & bobbin at all times, & make sure the thread tail are pulled behind the needle before you start to sew,, this will ensure that the thread will not come out of the needle when you start to sew.

you mention the fabric is thin,, do you have a needle that's right for the fabric your sewing?
thin fabric needs a different needle than blue jeans fabric, check your top tension & see what the setting is on, usually 3 to 5 is good.

when the needle & thread are right for the fabric then the sewing is good.

also clean under the needle plate & bobbin area for loose threads or lint

also it's a possibility that the machine could be out of time & would need to be serviced by a sewing machine repair shop-as they have the tools for the job

I'm having trouble removing the fabrics to wash,I'm guessing they come off. Does the hood fabric come off too??

Good Evening

The sun canopy is removable from the chassis, but you can't take the fabric out of the framework. You'll need to clean any marks with mild detergent and a sponge, it isn't suitable to put it through the washing machine.
The Zapp seat fabric slides out of the chassis - it's a bit fiddly if you've never done it before, so allow yourself some time to do it.
