Can you drink beer or spirits with antibiotics with a chest infection ?


Generally you are advised not to combine the 2, although it does depend a bit on which antibiotic it is.

What about cutting out the spirits and keeping to a nice cold ale or 2 until you finish the pills? Midway solution.

At what temperature should I be fermenting my beer? Is there a correct temperature?


If you are making your own Ale, then around 65-70 degrees F is a good temperature. Largers ferment better around 50 degreees F.

Be careful because if you ferment your beer too warm it could have an unpleasant flavor. And if you make the temperature too cold, the yeast might stop working. So it's hard to get the balance right but experience helps.

What is skunked beer?


This term is often used to refer to spoiled beer; however this is not the case. Beer becomes skunked when it is unintentionally exposed to a lot of light (specifically UV radiation). Basically what happens is the light causes the hops to break down with other chemicals ultimately creating a substance which produces a very strong and pungent sulfur smell - thus giving it the 'skunked' term.

It is this reason why most bottled beers are manufactured in brown bottles. The beers made in either clear or green bottles are able to avoid skunking by using a hop substitute, known as a tetra-hop.

What is the difference between Pale Ales, IPAs, and double IPAs?


All of these beer styles are quite hoppy and bitter. They are not too different from one another, as they are within the same beer family; however they do have a few distinctive variances.

Pale ales - brewed with lightly roasted 'pale' malts and have a nice balance between hops and malt

IPA's - much hoppier than pale ales - can be found in both English and American styles, with the Americans making a more hoppy version

Double IPA's - an American style take on pale ales that loads the beer full of hops, sometimes doubling or even tripling the normal amounts found in traditional pale ales
