You will need to contact Zmodo. It is most likely a corrupt password. You maybe able to access your menu, but wont be able to do anything and will get the "no root" error message. They will verify you are the actual owner via either your registration or a number off your orig invoice, for security reasons. (You could be a crook trying to delete the evidence, its good they check) They will then give you a bypass admin code to put in, then direct you to change your password and you should be all set. I just got done doing this after waiting for an hr with their online LIVE chat, and finally just called and waited the 15 mins for someone to answer. Its a small shop, but, they were friendly, knowledgeable and most important, spoke REAL ENGLISH!! =]) I spoke with Tony and after I got it fixed, he gave me a case number which will allow me not to have to go through all the verification next time around if I give it to him.. so, find your invoice and place that case number on it for future reference and put it in a handy location you wont forget.
Hope this helps the 20 plus ppl I found also asking pretty much the same question. I looked all over the net and I am an IT Professional and I couldn't find an answer.. even on their website. I plan on adding the answer there too as well. Have a GREAT DAY! =])

If you can get to the "No Root" message you are using the admin login and have accessed the main menu directly on the DVR.
I restored access to the menu items on the DVR after changing the "DVR PASSWORD" field from "ON" to "OFF" I had to do this through the NetDvr software using the root password login. After changing the setting I had to power cycle the DVR.
Using the NetDvr software connect to the dvr via default port 9000. Enter the admin password to access. Go to "Setup -> Advanced -> DVR Password" and set it to "Off". Click APLLY button. Once Config Apply is confirmed, power cycle the DVR. Now you can access the menu items.
