The system power up fine on AC adapter but as soon as I unplug the adapter, the screen goes blank with a very faint display. If i power it on a battery alone, it will startup on a blank screen with faint display. It only displayed well on AC adapter.

The problem is that its set in the power saving options. i mean on battery its set to power saver . while on power adapter it changes to hp recomended or high perfomance. So if you want to change it go to the right bottom of your screen and click the battery symbol it should give you the option to 1> change screen brightness 2>more power options. Go to more power options and select "change plan settings" beside the power saver.(not the one beside the other options) and change ur brightness. but its always better to keep it at ur minimum(with what ur comfortable) as its helpful to save battery

Laptops reduce the brightness when on battery power to conserve battery power. You can still adjust the screen brightness, the brighter the screen the less battery life you will have.

SOURCE: Hp Pavilion dv1000 Black screen

It is either the inverter board or the bulb

If it looks pink in color than it is the bulb and that can be quite the intensive project to replace

If it is the inverter board than that is not so bad and you can pick up an inverter board on eBay usually for around $10 to $20 and that usually installs right under the LCD screen (usually screwed to the LCD screen)

The inverter board is what powers the light bulb the data cable is totally separate function.
If you can see data on the screen with a flashlight but there is absolutely no light coming from the screen at all ever than it is probably just the inverter board

But there is a possibility that you could order the inverter board and have it turn out to be the bulb and if that is the case then unless you are very comfortable taking apart laptops then maybe a new screen would be best since you practically have to take apart the LCD to change the bulb.

But screen cost around 100 to 150 on eBay so if you decide to do that then might as well try for a deal like this: (I just spotted this on eBay and it is for entire new top half of laptop with glossy screen and inverter board wire harness and all for the same price or less than just the screen http://cgi.ebay.com/HP-dv1000-Pavilion-14-1-BrightView-Glossy-LCD-screen_W0QQitemZ310102538774QQihZ021QQcategoryZ31569QQssPageNameZWD1VQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotohosting

That is guaranteed to solve your problem for sure.

"......no beeps and it is a 3rd party charger for this model of laptop."

That 3rd party adapter could be the problem. Also, try to take out the battery and power it up from AC adapter only.
Ideally, try to find original AC adapter just for testing.

Pressing the f8 key doesn't work either? This should boot the laptop to safe mode, if it doesn't then check the memory cards before you do anything else, try to get somebody with the same type of memory card to lend it to you. If that doesn't work, then your HDD is corrupted, and to re-install Windows.

SOURCE: HP Pavilion dv9700t battery dead, faint blue flash from plug

Check your mains adapter plug that connects into the laptop power socket with a multi-meter, the voltage should be slightly higher than the voltage that is printed on the label on the bottom of the adapter. If the voltage is zero or way below the voltage that is printed on the label then the power adapter is faulty and needs to be replaced.

If the adapter is OK then connect it to the laptop and power it up, then look at the power/battery charging LED light and wriggle the power plug in the laptop's power socket. If the power/battery LED light flashes and in a certain position this LED light stays firm, then the power socket is either faulty or it has a dry solder joint where it is connected to the motherboard.
This can be repaired but it requires the laptop to be completely dismantled to get at this power socket and repair. I suggest you get a quote first.

    Hello.

I'm not certain if a power issue or graphics / display issue.

If a power issue, the most common reasons are the battery, power jack and power adapter/cord.

Power off and remove the battery. If the laptop powers on with just the adapter connected, your battery is faulty.

If you move/wiggle the power adapter at the point where it connects to the laptop, and the power goes off and on, the power jack is the problem.

The power jack is inside the laptop and either needs soldering or replacement.

If no change, the power adapter is probably faulty and needs replacement.

If a display / graphics issue, connect an external monitor to your laptop. If an external monitor works, it is the display's backlight or inverter board.

If you were experiencing discoloration in the screen (pinkish lower light hues) before it failed, that would indicate a CCFL backlight issue. If the screen suddenly went dim on you rather than a slow degradation, the inverter would be indicated.

In either case, a technician in your area should be able to help. Evaluate to see if the repair is cost-effective.

It's also possible that your graphics card is faulty and needs to be replaced.

    Hope this helps.

Pavilion dv7-1174ca -- Plugged in, not charging. Upon initial boot, there is a CMOS message stating that the storage capacity of this battery is low. After boot, I ran the HP Battery Health Check,...

First of all, you need to make sure your power adapter is providing enough power to both run the laptop & charge the battery. A very good way to do this is to compare your laptop voltage & ampere requirements (written on a sticker on the bottom of the laptop) with the voltage & ampere ratings of the power adapter. Voltages should be the same, or the power adapter's voltage about up to 0.5 volts more than the laptop's voltage rating. Amperage of the power adapter should be at least equal to or greater than the laptop's rating. It should never be less than the laptop's rating, or else the power adapter will be providing insufficient amperes to charge the battery. Of course, the power adapter's nominal amperage might be ok, but it degraded on usage. You can verify this by testing using a good or new power adapter.
If the battery did not charge using the new power adapter, take the battery off the laptop, & using a dry tooth brush, scrub in between the fins of the battery connector on the motherboard & on the battery it self, then put the battery back into the laptop & try again.
If this still did not resolve the problem, then the battery itself could be bad. Try it on another laptop, or try a good or new battery in your laptop.
If this did not work, there might be a possibility that the charging circuitry on the laptop's motherboard is defective & needs servicing. In order to do this, the laptop needs to be disassembled & the motherboard checked for defective/burned out components in the area near the DC jack. Any defective/burned out components found should be replaced, or you might need to replace the laptop's motherboard altogether.

Repair manual for HP Pavilion dv6 1245 dx

Go to hp.com. Click on support and drivers tab. Select "See Support & Troubleshooting Information." Enter your laptop model number. dv6-1245dx. Click on "GO". See: "What Type Of Support Do You Need?" Choose MANUALS. Scroll down the page and select "HP PAVILION DV6 ENTERTAINMENT PC - MAINTENANCE AND SERVICE GUIDE". Download that PDF format. It is relatively easy to get to the ribbon cable that connects the touchpad to the motherboard. It is connected via a ZIF connector. I had a dv1331se and the touchpad stopped working. I just reseated the cable in the connector and all was well. Hope your solution is as easy as mine was. You'll have to remove the trimplate just in front of the keyboard. Be careful with the connectors there. The manual is well laid out and the diagrams easy to follow. Good luck. HP Pavilion dv6 Entertainment PC - Maintenance and Service Guide

Toshiba A105 will not boot up even with cd and f12

its not a booting issue if you hear the music, it loaded windows. you might have a display issue, shine a light on it to see if you can see any faint images, if you can the backlights out if not it might be the display adapter on the MOBO, in either situation calling toshiba would be required for a repair, or otherwise take it into a shop, but first try a power reset,

unplug it and remove the battery, then hold the power button down for one minute, replace the battery and power cord and try to boot again. if this fails call toshiba, its definately a hardware issue.

    Desk top won't display-hibernation mode

    Hi,

Based on your post of failure to boot due to hibernation, you can try removing the battery and AC adapter connection for an hour or so. Thereafter, insert battery back and charge but don't power up. Allow the laptop to charge for a couple of hours. Try powering up/booting. Press F8 to start in Safe Mode. Once in Safe Mode disable Hibernation.

If the laptop still fails to power up, then it may be entirely another problem.

Post back results. Good luck and kind regards.
