Question about Air Conditioners

1 Answer

Admiral air conditioner

I have bought a slightly used admiral aw-08cr1fm 7800 btu window air conditioner at a good price. I can return it if need be. I need to know if it is cooling adequately. It is cold outside (58 degrees F ), however I can place it in my car and turn the heater on and probably get the temperature up to 80 degrees. So if I create this situation where the ''outside'' air temperature is 80 degrees and the intake air temperature is 80 degrees, how cold should the discharge air temperature be?

Also It has 3 speeds all of which are very quiet but it does not seem to blow air very forcefully on high. Any way to measure this? And if it is a problem, is there any way to assist the air flow with some type of fan?

Here are some reviews and questions that have already been asked on Fixya. any appliance that is only used for a few months of the year and then rests for months is going to exhibit some problems eventually. Usually just a matter of getting an AC engineer to add some more refrigerant gas.

We just bought a new 29" 5th wheel camper, that has one 15,000 BTU roof unit. Should this one unit cool the rv?

Yes if its working properly. A 20 degree temp. differential between its supply air and return air its good.

    Size of air condition.

Get the cubic volume of the room. The highest temprature differential. and how many air changes you need. this will give you the btu required.
If this is too high, get the biggest unit that your supply can safely carry.

Mr slim unit in bedroom 9kbtu - room 11x12'- is humid, awful

Lets clarify. DRY mode only dehumidifes that air and does not cool. Cool is used for cooling. Dry mode doesn't normally have temp control; it is automatically set by the unit. I think 9000btu is a big unit for the room; it is overkill. I would switch to a 5000btu unit. it cannot be fixed and the BR unit needs to be uninstalled and the new unit needs to be re-installed. The price of commisioning, de-commisioning and new unit is something in which you will have to pay.

    Noise

Adding cloth or any other sound absorbing material will not work. There is not enough room to add anything appreciable in the fan area.
