Whenever I cook pasta the water boils over and causes a terrible mess. How can I stop this happening?

Use a bigger pan than you think is needed, bring cold water to the boil, add salt and don't add your pasta until the water is on a rolling boil allow room for the pasta to expand because if you don't it will boil over every time. Bring the water back up to the boil and then turn it down so it bubbles just under boiling and never put a lid on it whilst cooking.

The most common cause of water boiling over when you cook pasta is if you cook it with the lid on the pot. Don't cover pasta fully with a lid. Either cook it uncovered or if you are in a hurry to cook it quicker, just partially cover the pot.

Also make sure you don't overfill the pan with water as this is another cause of overboiling.

Can you cook pasta in the microwave?

I love cooking pasta in my microwave as I don't have to wait for the water to come to the boil.

Put your pasta in a large bowl with lots of water and season. I cook my pasta for around 10 minutes and stir it half way through. Test one piece and if you want to cook it for longer just bung it back in.

yes you can cook noodles in the microwave. Make sure you use a really big bowl and plenty of water. Cook the noodles for 3-6 minutes but make sure you use hot pads or gloves to remove the bowl as it will be boiling hot and you can really hurt yourself.

Should you rinse pasta after you cook it? I have always done that but someone told me it isnt right.

Italians who are the pasta experts will tell you not to rinse your pasta. You should cook it perfectly ie cooked through but not totally soft and then drain it. Some people suggest that you catch the water it boiled in and can use that to rinse the pasta, but most experts say just drain and eat it!

How do you cook pasta? Do you boil the water with the pasta in or wait till it is boiling to add it?

In terms of water to pasta ratio, you should use around 4-6 quarts of water for every pound of dry pasta. Once the water has come to the boil add the pasta and then bring it back to the boil. Add some salt, stir occasionally and follow the instructions on the packet to find out how many minutes to cook it for.

How to replace door switch on advantium

Happened to my 2005 Advantium120 twice, both times after extended cooking/simmering on the cooktop (17" below). Solution was to leave unplugged for a good 48 hours (to dry out?) then plug in again and all is good. GE says to either raise the microwave 4" or stop boiling pasta on the stove, neither a good solution. Good luck!

by how much water do you mean how much water do you put in the pasta or how much water to boil to cook pasta??
cooking pasta is easy.. if its dry pasta around 8-12 mins or according to package instructions but fresh pasta takes a shorter time at around 2-5 mins :D

Our Simpson Esprit hob has terrible heat control. We are burning everything, even on low because the temp is too hot, but then when we try and boil pasta on a high heat we cant seem to get it even to...

I am assuming the cooktop is electric. Are the hotplates the solid type, coil type or beneath the glass. Are these new to you or have you been cooking with these for a long time?

My pasta gone into a solid lump how do i unstick it

Sorting out pasta starts at the beginning. I'll tell you what I do.
1. Get your water on a fast boil 3/4 full in a pot (depending how many you're feeding). A rapid boil is essential.
2. Add some oil (sunflower or olive), about a tablespoon, and the boil will send it through the water.
3. NOW add the pasta, and give it a good stir rather than leaving it in a clump in the pot. Separating it at this point will help ensure there's no gloops at the end. Give it at least two more stirs (at least!) through the cooking. You must separate it to avoid the lumps and clinging together.
4. Cook it for as long as the package suggests, then strain off at the end and serve.
