Question about IBM ThinkPad T23 Notebook

1 Answer

Display changes when laptop is closed

Whenever I close my laptop, my normal display settings change. The icons and everything becomes magnified or just really large I guess. I have to go to my presentation director and hit on my normal display setting everytime I open my laptop in order to return to a normal nonmagnified screen. I have gone into the control panel but can not find a place that deals with this. I have aslo looked in the presentation director schemes and none of them deal with this. I am at a loss and tired of having to (fix) the display each time I open the laptop. Note: this does not happen when I first turn the laptop on. It only happens if I leave it on and close the top.

I cant enter sleep mode on my acer aspire one zg5. How do i fix?

Your settings in power mode have changed. Open up display and go to the screen saver tab (win 7) you will see the power savings option at the bottom. Go into that and change what the buttons do. You will have 3 situations to change. What happens when i close the lid, power button and sleep mode. Chances are you gave everything set to do nothing

I deleted a bunch of things off my laptop. i think i deleted too much and whenever i turn it on, it zooms in and i cant get it back to normal.

It's a problem with your display drivers. What make and model is your laptop? What company makes it? Go to that company's website, and search for drivers, it's usually under the support page of most manufacturers websites. Find your model laptop (Usually identifiable on a sticker on the bottom of the laptop) and get the display, video, or graphics drivers. Install them, and your resolution will be back to normal.

While at home I plug a wide screen monitor into my Dell studio 1737 Laptop. As long as I keep my lid open the icons and print on my monitor are the right size. When I close the lid, icons and prints get...

You appear to be cloning your internal LCD and as long as it is active, the resolution setting for the LCD is also controlling the resolution of the external monitor. When the LCD is closed, then the default resolution of the external monitor is being used by Windows 7 (It apparently has autodetected the size of the monitor and knows the Highest optimal resolution it will display.) The higher the resolution, then smaller the icons.
To resolve, go to display properties and check the resolution of the internal LCD and then set the External display to the lower resolution.
You should be able to wake the system with an external keyboard, by pressing the spacebar, if the system is sleeping

How to increase text size when running laptop and % icon does not show in lower right right hand corner of screen

To change the text size you will need to right click on a blank part of the screen/desktop so you get display properties or click start then settings then control panel then display. When you get that window up you can click on the appearance tab along the top. In this window along the lower left is font size. You can increase the size of the font by clicking on the box then selecting the size you want. This will change the size of the font as soon as you click on apply. This only changes menu text sizes.

To change everything overall you want to click on the settings tab then the advanced button lower right. It should come up to the window we want but if not it is under the general tab. Under DPI settings (sometimes will show as text size or font size but all are the same setting) the default is set to 96 try selecting the 120 size. This will increase the size of the text used. You can also select custom and enter any number. You will probably have to reboot the computer after changing this unless you have it in the section below to apply without restarting. Hit apply and reboot if required and your text will now all be bigger. If the text is too much bigger than stock some programs or windows may not look right or the text is not aligned. Thats typical if the text is too big or the window it is in is a fixed size and can't change. If this happen you can try the custom setting to find a bigger size that won't cause problems.

You can also use the visually impaired utilities one of which is a magnifier. That just enlarges an area around the mouse so it isn't quite as easy for daily use.

I'm stumped on the % icon thing. What normally is there is the clock. Unless this is a icon that shows battery charge or something like that? You can usually get these to display again by starting the utility from the start menu - all programs and then look for a setting that says display on toolbar.

Screen is magnified

your video driver may be corrupted or your screen resolution is too low.
1. right-click on your desktop screen then click properties. A display properties window should appear. Select a higher resolution like below: 6dcf389.jpg
2. Then click APPLY and OK. You should see any changes on your screen display. OR, you can RESTART your PC to see the desired effects.
3. Also, if the above don't correct your problem, try to look at your device manager and see if all video drivers are well stored. a) Right-click on you "My Computer" and click on Properties. The settings should look like one below: 7ac946c.jpg

If you see a yellow ? opposite your Display Adapter, there reinstall your video card.

Icons on computer are very large after closing a program; restart doesn't fix

Yes, it is normal because your game is running in a lower resolution. When the game is exited properly, then your normal resolution is restored but since it didn't exit properly, it forgot to change your resolution back.

Assuming this is windows xp, right click anywhere on the desktop that does not have an icon and select properties. There you can change the resolution to what it was; since I don't know what it was, you'll have to test a few to see which one looks the way it did before. Then once you find it, press okay and it will save.
