Have you tried cleaning the tape head? I recommend taking the top cover off to clean any video. Then I spray the heads with Servisol Video 40. You should clean all the surfaces that a tape touches. You can get a universal remote, this will allow you to adjust the tracking.
Doreen, it is a simple job. At the back of the VCR you will find two sockets mentioned Video Out and Audio Out. Put the yellow plug in Video Out of VCR and the other end of this cable will have another yellow plug, which you put in the Video IN (PUT) of the TV. Take the White plug of the cable and put it in AUDIO OUT of the VCR and put the other end in RED AUDIO IN(PUT) of the TV, (Older VCRs like yours did not have stereo sound capability, and so there is only ONE Audio OUT from the VCR. ) Now, put a tape in the VCR and hit PLAY. Switch onthe TV and select AV1 or AV2. You should be able to get Picture and sound.
Is it only the Head cleaning cassette which keeps getting ejected, or is it happening with every tape you insert?
Was the Head Cleaning Tape a little tight in the Cassette compartment? Did you have to put some pressure to push it in or did it come out with difficulty? From your symptoms, it looks like there is a gear timing problem with the cassette loading compartment gears. It could also be due to some obstruction inside. try shaking the VCR, and if you are hearing some noise, Open cover and check for foreign objects.
It sounds like possibly there is stray RF getting into your video signal from your DVD/VCR combo to your tv. Check that your cables are ok, but also, if you can, try moving the unit in relation to the tv, if it is underneath, try putting it on top or beside the tv, I've seen the effect you describe be cause by lack of sheilding in both the tv and DVD/VCR, and moving the unit could cure it.
Have tried cleaning the Video Heads? Over long periods of usage, the viseoheads get clogged, and you get a 'dirty' or fuzzy picture. Go to the Video store (radio shack should be ok)and buy a Wet type Head Cleaning cassete. Follow the instructions, and I am fairly certain that your problem should be solved.
It is also possiblethat over a longperiod of usage, the Video Heads have got worn out. if you have been observing a gradual detoriation in picture quality, it could mean that the Video Heads have finally got worn out. in such a case they have to be replaced. First try the Cleaning option.
