First of all Tape drives are hard to find as technology is fast moving. warranty will be a issue & you will have hard time finding tapes. also storing tapes is not going to be easy

I need a tape drive for ADR 2 60 Gig tapes

If this is for data recovery there are companies that provide this service. If this is for backup you will be much better served by dumping the tapes and move to LTO.

SCSI tape drive, 150MB ARCHIVE corporattion ,2150l it is very old & i donot use it before i need help to test it for & can i used it with windows xp

To be completely honest, unless there is vital data stored on a tape drive that you absolutely must access, this technology is severely outdated and not worth the hassle of finding the appropriate drivers for Win XP. An CD burner is very very inexpensive, easy to install if there isn't one already (especially external drives). Most computer shops have used CD burners in stock and will sell them basically for pocket change.

Archive Corporation was purchased by Connor Peripherals in 1993 and they don't appear to have Win XP drivers readily available for that model. If you need to test that drive, you will need to couple it with an old computer. Try a functioning computer at a garage sale, seriously. You can probably get one for about $10 WITH a monitor! That's going to be your best bet.

I hope this helps, I know you wanted different news, but at least this is accurate.

On power up we get an 'E' during drive initialization

E stands for error (Although i am sure you could have guessed this)

Try to see if the drive at the back is passing self test or not so we know if it is a drive or loader issue

If it looks as if the drive is OK try cleaning the tape slots as there are sensors to sense tape loaded etc

Is the arm (and the main chassis) bent? this will also cause issues.

If it is a drive issue (Drive fails POST) then it is most likely a tape leader issue where the drives needs to be removed and the leader refitted (see other posts on here about DLT tape leader issues)

Parity error issue with TF85 DSSI based on VAX4000 - 700

If cleaning the heads using the cleaning tape did not help, then there are 3 possibilities that I know of:

1) The heads are sufficiently dirty to require direct cleaning with a more powerful solution.
2) The heads are defective.
3) The heads are out of alignment.

Parity errors are not usually controller problems. If the head alignment has drifted enough, you may be missing a track when recording. An initialization includes writing format information at the beginning of the tape. This is "re-read" during the process to confirm correct writing. This is the part that is failing.

Keep me posted.

I've got a 3580 Ultrium tape drive with a tape that won't eject and the unit displays error code 6. Is there a trick to get the tape out?

I had this same problem a few mins ago. I held the tape up with my finger as I hit eject. The tape came right out. Then I put in a cleaning tape and had no issues at all. You don't need to disassemble the unit at all.

ADIC Scalar 24 LTO2 Drive issue

We have the same problem with our ADIC Scalar 24. The only way we have been able to eject the tape is to cycle power on the tape library and after it has finished reading the tape barcodes, we can use the front panel command to unmount the tape that is in the drive. We haven't been able to find a solution to the problem and it happens at least once a week

Can you fix it?

It sounds like your first drive is defiantly shot. The second one suggests the drive has failed as well. You should be able to eject the tape manually using a long piece of steel. Such as a paper clip.

Taken from the manual
If all the right side or left side lights flash on the front panel:
There is a fault with the drive.
1 Try turning the power switch on the drive off and then on again.
2 If the problem persists, call for service.

So your sorda up a creek. Can i suggest moving to HDD backup system? They are ultra cheap, reliable, and much faster than Tape backup systems.

Alternativly if you have data you need to recover, you can purchase new (used) drives off ebay for about $200

Ultrium LTO 2 Tape Drive

Try holding the eject button down, for a long time, about 20 seconds (1 and 2 and ). This resets the tape drive, the lights on the front should go off, then come back on again. The tape will either eject automatically or will eject after the button is pressed normally.
The only time this dosen't work is if the tape is still out inside the drive.
