Hi,

Screen blanking is often a part of the power saving profile. Have you tried changing this in the Tools menus? You should be able to alter the screen blanking time out to a longer period or a disabled setting. I suspect yours is very brief.

The battery packs for the Canon EOS line are very very good and can handle the screen always being on until you close it and use the view finder instead.

Let me know if this is on target or not as the only other reason would be a faulty battery pack. These packs have chips in them that send the battery strength signal back to the camera. And if the camera thinks the battery is critical low, it will default to turning off the screen right away.

Give me a hint if this makes sense in your case or not. I can check if its a known problem of your model.. So, on your camera label there shold be a version number for your 400D, that would be helpful too.

Regards,
Worldvet

    Hi,

I'd like to follow up and find out if there was first no issue with the power saving options or not.

Then, have you ever applied a firmware update for your camera. And then, do you know what a firmware update is and how to install it for your camera.

I hope this doesn't come across wrong. We just don't know what you know when we get these problems on the board. So, if you would let me know by using the Comment Text box below I'll be glad to work this problem through along with you.

    Here to help,

LCD Display. I got the Rebel T1i but the LCD screen won't view anythign unless I press the display button. How can I have the LCD screen on while I am taking picture? Please advise..thanks

The T1i does not have this feature, like most digital SLR cameras. You should just look through the viewfinder to take the photo, which gives you a much more precise view of the photo, where you can better assess the correctness of focus, etc.
This feature is called "Live View" and is available on some newer or higher end models.

LCD monitor works to display picture already taken and the menu display, but with not display live images. Must use the view finder. Menu does not have a "live view"

There is no function to do this on the EOS 400D. Don't forget the camera is an SLR and still has to open and close a shutter to take a picture. The image is then converted using a CCD instead of exposed on film. I find with my 20D I just take loads of pictures and review them and then delete the ones that I don't want. This is the beauty of the digital age.

Have a canon rebel eos and when I turn the camera on the only ting that shows up on the lcd is the auto description---how do I get it to just show what I want to take a photo of

These cameras won't show the picture on the screen until you've taken the photo, they don't work the same way as point and shoot cameras. So you have to use the viewfinder. Unless your model has live view in which case it's still pretty fiddly and I wouldn't recommend it.

Canon EOS 400d - See the image on the screen?

there should be a button on the camera that says "disp" this stands for display and when you hit that button you should see the image and if you hit it again it will go black again so you can control whether you want see it or not

New EOS XSi LCD don't work

You have to set the camera to "Live View" mode. Check your manual for settings.
BTW, it's usually a bad idea to use Live View mode unless the camera is on a tripod. With Live View you have to hold the camera out in front of you and it's much less steady.

LCD Display

As far as I am aware, the 400D doesn't have a live preview mode.

What you are describing is perfectly normal and is how 99% of digital SLR cameras behave.

Are you sure it used to do this?

LCD monitor does not light up, and consequently, does not display any image (as some other digital cameras do) during the aiming and focusing processes - sort of prescanning the image - before the shutter...

to my knowledge digital slrs aren't supposed to show you the image on the screen before you shoot because the battery would get used up too quickly this is what the viewfinder is for and the lcd is purely there to tell you info on what the settings are and to view your pics after shooting, I have the 400d and its the same for that.Hope this helps

Is my canon eos 400d broken?

This is a Digital SLR With SLR cameras you can only use the viewfinder because the image comesi nto the lens and up to the viewfinder via a mirror. When to take a pic the mirror flips up[usually with a crash] and the image goes to the CCD- afterwards you will get an image briefly in the LCD.
