SOURCE: vga card installation

you have to check: if driver is right and no error during hardware and software install
1) go bios check the setting for AGP and biuld-in VGA, set to AGP slot enable
2) check your cpu speed, and power supply watt, it is under 350 is not siuitable for higher speed cpu plus GF6600, choose 400W or higher better. sometimes the power trouble is crucial
3) check your motherboard model to make sure the AGP slot which support GF6600
3) go windows check 6600 device status at control panel/ system/hardware manage/vedio card show right detail.

SOURCE: very slow progress bar accessing web sites

Try using a different browser, IE8 is ridiculously slow onXP . Opera is by far the fastest but if you don't see a clear difference then your DSL connection is really too slow. Phone Qwest and ask for explanations and when they are going to fix that.

CAN'T CONNECT TO THE INTERNET. DELL DEMENTIONS 1100 DESK TOP WINDOWS XP COMCAST SAID IT'S THE LAN ADAPTER.

You can download the LAN and device drivers from Dell WEB site, the support download page. Make sure you select your model desktop or laptop, better still, type in the Service Tag number, it is printed on the label on thebottom of the laptop and on the back or sides of a desktop. (If the Service Taglabel is missing then go into the BIOS setting and on one of the BIOS pages, the Service Tag number will be displayed). This will open the page where thespecific drivers for your model computer are located. Also make sure you selectthe Windows of the drivers for your Windows operating system. Click on thislink to download the drivers: - http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen

What Operating sysytem are you using??. If you have windows 7 than this might be a problem as most programs and softwares only recognizes windows Xp and not 7. Try using that same program on windows Xp and see if it works.

My Maxtor 4 500 GB hard drive sounds like it's trying to run, but then it says that It's not connected to my computer. The little front light is lit up, but then it says it's not connected to my laptop. ...

This could be something as simple as the cable has gone bad. I would replace it first. If that does not work try this.
1.Right click the My Computer icon on desk top. If you do not have My Computer on the desk top it can be found in the Start Menu. It may just say Computer.
2.After right clicking it go to Properties in the drop down menu and left click it. You will get a window looking like this.
8516323.jpg
If you have Vista. I think Windows 7 is similar. Windows XP will be a window with tabs at top.
3.Open the Device Manager and you will get a window with a list of devices that are installed on you
PC. Looking like this.
506708a.jpg
In the list you should see your Maxtor it's probably down in the USB section. If you can't find it, it means you need to reinstall the drivers. If you do find it right click on it. You will have a drop down menu with different options on it. You can try uninstalling it reboot the PC and see if it auto finds it.

Hope this was helpful.
Good Luck

How to locate fault in case of hardware failure in windows xp professional?

On your Desk top screen, look for MY Computer. Right Click and from drop down box, select Manage.
This will bring up the "Computer Management" screen. Click and select Device Manager. All devices will be displayed on the panel to the right. If a device is nor working properly, you will see an icon with a X or a warning ! sign.
If the device is marked as "functioning properly", then most likely it is NOT a hardware issue.

Windows XP will not shut down.

I don't know if you've tried this yet,but here it is just in case.

Click Start, and then click Control Panel > Performance and Maintenance>Power Options>In the Power Options Properties dialog box, on the Power Schemes tab, click the Power schemes drop-down list and select the power scheme that most closely matches how you use your computer.
adjust the System standby and System hibernates settings if you are not happy with the default selection. On the Advanced tab, you can adjust the default behavior of the power buttons on your computer. Click Apply>OK

Please rate this a fixya

You can't fine free copies of Microsoft Office, however, you can download OpenOffice. Its a free Office program and compatable with any Microsoft Office programs. Just go to this link and download a free copy: http://www.openoffice.org/ This is not a trial version and it works just like Microsoft only without the expense.

This happens because Windows is corrupted.

You need to start the computer with a windows install disk, or a factory recovery disk inside to reinstall the system.

Get a windows install disk and reinstall the system.

The results you are seeing are actually from the monitor itself. It's telling you the vertical and horizontal sync frequencies to help you troubleshoot your lack of display.

You'd usually see this happen when someone has set the resolution too high, and the monitor just can't handle it.

Power up, and keep tapping F8 until you get a Windows boot menu. Choose "safe mode", let it boot to windows. Go to display properties, and then settings. The slider for the resolution will now be right down. (left-most). Click it once, so that the apply button becomes valid. Hit apply and let it restart.

You should now boot to Windows normally, but with a very low resolution. Go back to display settings and bump it up one step at a time, using the apply button. (which will revert back one step if you don't hit "yes" within 20 seconds).

That way, you can find a resolution that looks right, but isn't too high for your screen.
