Acer aspire 5515 blue screen

yes it may be related to bios setting . Just enter your bios in the laptop (F2)
and for HD change the SATA to ATA or vice-versa. SAVE and retry boot.

(it can also be AHCI to ATA or ATA to AHCI.)

Blue screen when installing os

If you are trying to install the Windows XP from scratch on the computer, please BE SURE that you put the Hard Drive on "Compatibility" mode in BIOS, which was defaulted to "AHCI" (Compatibility is also known as IDE).

Otherwise, you will experience the "blue screen" issue. To change that setting, you need to do the following:
1. Press F2 when booting up the computer
2. Select 'Config', then 'Serial ATA (SATA)'
3. Change controller option to 'Compatibility' / 'IDE'

I have replaced the HHD with a WD250 (Origional HD was damaged). Problem before and even now is... CANNOT install XP Pro. After a few mins, it brings up the BSOD and shuts down... Why, Whats wrong?

Difficult to say without any more information than that.

First of all, verify the hardware, the memory in particular, using a "burn in boot CD" (memtest86 supplies one, if memory serves).

If you get the OK there, it may be that LG E500 requires special AHCI drivers (many laptops do). To be able to install, you need to turn AHCI off in the BIOS, install the OS, then install the AHCI drivers, reboot and turn AHCI back on again.

Also, you may try a test install of a user-friendly Linux distribution such as OpenSuSE. In case of troubles even in Linux, which is probably a clue of some hardware issue, you may well find some hint in the /var/log/messages file, or directly in the system console (Fn-F10 or Ctrl-Alt-F10).

Error while trying to install windows xp Stop: 0x0000007B on a dell Optiplex sx270

The most popular Blue Screen of Death error in Windows is the STOP 0x0000007B error, sometimes called the 0x7b error or the "INACCESSIBLE BOOT DEVICE" BSOD.
This BSOD (which is actually the common name for a STOP Error) could mean that there's a serious hardware problem with a hard drive controller, a driver issue, or even a boot sector virus.
In your case though, this is most likely one of 4 capacitors that are known to blow out on any SX270. Slide the bar at the back of your PC to the remove cover side and look inside for swollen caps. Remove the fans and cpu cover as well and check around there. Replace any bad ones you can find with old caps borrowed from an old motherboard if you have one, or new ones from any decent electronics parts warehouse. This fix has worked for me on every SX270 I have ever had.

Motherboard has two built-in Sata connectors. after installing controller I can either use the onboard connectore or the controller but not both.

Check the BIOS settings. You may want to try AHCI settings or RAID settings and turn off LEGACY settings. The ports are controlled by the board itself, which is handled by the BIOS. So, the best place to start is there.

If AHCI is not enabled by the motherboard and chipset, SATA controllers typically operate in "IDE emulation" mode which does not allow features of devices to be accessed if the ATA/IDE standard does not support them. Windows device drivers that are labeled as SATA are usually running in IDE emulation mode unless they explicitly state that they are AHCI. While the drivers included with Windows XP do not support AHCI, AHCI has been implemented by proprietary device drivers.[1] Windows Vista[2] and Linux with kernel version 2.6.19 onward[3] have native support for AHCI.
