SOURCE: NO HDD RECOVERY AREA !

first boot pc, then right before windows would start, press either F2 or F8,, I think it's F2, this will bring you to bios settings, look for bootup device options, Set cd-rom as first bootup device, then Hard drive as second device, Then save settings, insert recover cd, then restart pc, it will immediately boot up your recover cd or windows disc

SOURCE: Toshiba 500 GB External Hard drive cant be detected by windows xp

yes you could simply format the harddrive in Fat32 using your macos that would be the best solution but don`t forget to backup your data by copy pasting the files on your mac or something else and after that to move them on the external hdd again to be available on the windows machine

SOURCE: i have a Toshiba 1tb external hdd (px1396-3t01)

How old is your laptop? Are you running at least Windows XP Service Pack 3? If so, Right-click My Computer, then left-click Manage\Storage\Disc Management. Do you see your 1TB HDD listed? If so, is it described as Unallocated Space. If it says that it's Unallocated, then right-click in the black area and choose format, then follow the prompts from there. You should probably format it as NTFS. Be careful not to accidentally format a drive other than your 1TB HDD. If you don't see your drive listed in Disc Management then double check your connections. If all is connected well, then you should probably return it to wherever you bought it.

the drive could be potentially corrupt.
plug in your HDD and run recurrva and try to recover files if you cant do that remove the HDD from the caddy and plug into a PC and test if you can access your files if not reformat by right clicking on the drive in my computer (ntfs is recommended) you will loose all data but you may be able to recover your HDD

External Buffalo Hard Disk 500 Gb model no HD-PF500U2/BK-AP not detecting when connnected to a laptop or a desktop PC

Check the usb port function in the computer bios settings and be sure that it is set to yes. Connect properly your external drive. If it has two wire usb connections, use both to obtain the maximum power that will be need by your drive.

Sony Vaio laptop could not access 1TB external hard drive

try other usb port, or other computer and see whether the hdd is detected. If still not, try to go to device manager ( http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000833.htm ), and then assign a drive letter to the hdd. After that, try to access it from Computer, if not able to access it, format it (use quick format) and then use this data recovery program to recover your files.

Hard drive detection

You should not need a driver for it. Assuming you are using XP or Vista, the disk should be supported directly by the OS.
Have a look at external HDD troubleshooting.

External HDD

The answers are maybe, and yes.

If your internal hard drive is nearly full then adding an external hdd and transfering some of the files to it will free up space on your internal hdd and potentially improve performance.

You can install programs and store files on the external hdd. Obviously it will need to be connected in order to run these programs and access the files.
