Sir all smps can be reapired using indian jugar technique. first of all see twi diods under the burnt transistors check them they are short then check the capacitors if they are not leaky or pregnant then see bridge reactifier change all that looks short or open then replace all and the transistors with 13007 transistors(jugad) be careful that 13007 must be isolated from heat sink that means metal part must be fixed to them but not short to them . replace the fuse with 2 ampere fuse (for safety) ..... have fun

This isn't a solution as more advice. Replace the power supply. Just cause two components have blown doesn't mean that there is further damage to the unit. If you replace those two components, then it's quite likely that whatever caused them to blow will cause it to happen again. That's one outcome- the other is that another component blows after you replace those two, possibly blowing those two again.

It would work out far cheaper and easier both in time and parts to just replace the unit with a known good unit. The last thing you wanna do is effect a repair, and then something more serious blows, causing damage to the rest of the system.

Regards

Jay

Whirlpool Wall Unit Double -oven. Part # 4451887 REV. C Control Panel doesn't work. Interior lights come on and the oven constantly beeps. We have been waiting for a replacement part for 4 months.

I have the same problem with the same part and was told by AppliancePartPros that the Control Panel would not be available to them until Feb 2012. I noticed a discoloration near a power transister and the big power resister next door (installed with about a 1/2 inch clearance to the PCB board, labeled R188 on my REV A board). The solder connections from the R188 resister to the PCB were cracked. That resister was hot when I touched it and the thermal cycling probably cracked the solder joints after 9 years. I am going to resolder those connections tomorrow and see if that resolves the problem. Do you see any burn marks near that Power transister (3 lead black package with a metal heat sink on its back (the heat sink has a circular hole above the black plastic package)?

My dell dimension b110 quit working one day and just flashed an amber colored light. I was told I need to replace the power supply. Is any 400W 20+4-pin ATX PSU w/SATA compatible?

Yes, just make sure it's ATX (not ATX mini etc but you'd see from the connector anyway) has the right motherboard connector and all other connectors. Also I'd go for a 450W as if your 400w died it may have been from a power surge that a 450W or higher would handle better.

HOW CAN WE SOLVE LOAD PROBLEM OF ATX SMPS

First, I am not very good with acronyms, so what is an ATX SMPS.
I have a feeling it is an ATX style Power Supply which cannot handle a load. What are we talking about per voltage rail and where do you think the drain comes from?

When you try to turn the tower on the fans start up but nothing happens it just has one long continous beep.

probably itz either minor case of improper ground..
or major case of faulty or defective main board/RAM/addon/daughter cards..

..plz do check the following as in order:..
the Hardware part:..
1) see if the ram(s) is loose/faulty..open clean/remove carbon & or oxide formed on the teeth with an eraser n resit it..or replace with a standby n see..

2) on main/mother board..see with a debug card for mb error..may b short..look for defective capacitors(espabove1000mfd)/mosfets..go through the mb's south bridge n the circuit lie around atx connector..the crystal clock generator (if cpu isn't heating up)..

3) remove/clean dust neatly..dust is non-uniform in nature n may cause jam/short circuitry/excess resistance n many more..resulting an increase in heat..

4) unplug mains supply..pick open/remove the cmos battery..check (above +3v)..resit..

5) [in case of desktop] the smps itself may b defective/faulty..check the outputs of smps viz. 0v (black~ground); +12v(yellow); +5v (red, green~ps-on, violet~pg& grey~sb); -12v (blue);-5v(white); +3.3v(orange)..the 'oscillator and error amplifier ic',or pwm switching regulator circuit..look for defective protector-transformer/resistance (esp 4.7k)/mosfet..
check the battery n adapter [main power], in case of laptops..

6) see if ur hdd is noisy or emitting any 'ticking' noise (like 'tuk tuk' or 'kirr kirr')..or ur hdd is likely to b replaced..

for any further assistance u may plz leave comment and or testimonials at any point of time, so that i/we can help or u think it to b helpful..

SCHEMATIK DIAGRAM FOR POWER SUPPLI

I would also have liked to have had a schematic diagram for my ECHOSTAR 450w ATX power supply.

Not having one though, I have replaced two capacitors (one with a bulging top) and another with a leaking top, three rectifiers (two shorted and the third had a cracked case), and have ordered transistor Q1 (also shorted). Will also need to repair trace damage on the bottom of the circuit board. Other components check out OK so I hope it will be working again after the transistor arrives Monday. I need the -5v this one supplies to get my old computer running so I can retrieve last year's tax info.

My pc doesn't work

i gotta know 1st what is ur system configuration..is all ur system is getting power on..is there any sound coming out of the system..
assuming that the bios has not been flashed in a wrong way & u r a professional..

before u proceed to complex checkups..check the mains power supply- the fuse/switch/wirings/power cords/other associate circuits..

probably itz either minor case of loose ram/improper ground/cmos battery..
or major case of faulty or defective smps/cpu/main board short/display adapter or card/monitor

..plz do check the following as in order:..

1) in power on mode, open/unplug the data/vga cable of the monitor from cabinet..see if raster or 'osd' is appearing on the monitor screen..if so monitor is ok..else replace the monitor and see..

2) if u hv a graphics card, replace with a standby or onboard and see..

3) see if the ram(s) is loose/faulty..open clean/remove carbon & or oxide formed on the teeth with an eraser n resit it..or replace with a standby n see..

4) unplug mains supply..pick open/remove the cmos battery..check (above +3v)..resit..

5) remove/clean dust neatly..dust is non-uniform in nature n may cause jam/short circuitry/excess resistace n many more..resulting an increase in heat..

6) open the CPU Heat-Sink with fan out of the socket..put some "Heat Sink Compound" (available in local electronics chip level spare market) between the cpu/processor and the CPU Heat Sink *** fan..resit/fit it tightly in position..

7) the smps itself may b defective/faulty..check the outputs of smps viz. 0v (black~ground); +12v (yellow); +5v (red, green~ps-on, violet~pg & grey~sb); -12v (blue); -5v(white); +3.3v(orange)..
the 'oscillator and error amplifier ic', or pwm switching regulator circuit..look for defective protector-transformer/resistance(esp 4.7k)/mosfet..

8) if itz not the smps, then it must b ur main/mother board..see with a debug card for mb error..may b short..look for defective capacitors(esp above 1000mfd)/mosfets..go through the mb's south bridge n the circuit lie around atx connector..the crystal clock generator (if cpu isn't heating up)....

From 300w psu i change it to 450w will that be ok?

Ivy My field is in home appliances. I do fix my own computers and have replaced a few power supplys. The only thing I could say to you is go back and recheck your connections. They should only fit on the bord one way. The other connections for the hard drive and cd drives and so on really dont matter. so good luck and I think if you recheck it all the computer will work.
