Sir all smps can be reapired using indian jugar technique. first of all see twi diods under the burnt transistors check them they are short then check the capacitors if they are not leaky or pregnant then see bridge reactifier change all that looks short or open then replace all and the transistors with 13007 transistors(jugad) be careful that 13007 must be isolated from heat sink that means metal part must be fixed to them but not short to them . replace the fuse with 2 ampere fuse (for safety) ..... have fun

This isn't a solution as more advice. Replace the power supply. Just cause two components have blown doesn't mean that there is further damage to the unit. If you replace those two components, then it's quite likely that whatever caused them to blow will cause it to happen again. That's one outcome- the other is that another component blows after you replace those two, possibly blowing those two again.

It would work out far cheaper and easier both in time and parts to just replace the unit with a known good unit. The last thing you wanna do is effect a repair, and then something more serious blows, causing damage to the rest of the system.

Regards

Jay

Replace the power supply or have it tested.
Amazon com bestec atx 300 12z You can get a replacement pretty cheap. Most all power supplies can also be tested - Bestbuys geek squad or a small computer repair shop should have the means to test it.

HOW CAN WE SOLVE LOAD PROBLEM OF ATX SMPS

First, I am not very good with acronyms, so what is an ATX SMPS.
I have a feeling it is an ATX style Power Supply which cannot handle a load. What are we talking about per voltage rail and where do you think the drain comes from?

SCHEMATIK DIAGRAM FOR POWER SUPPLI

I would also have liked to have had a schematic diagram for my ECHOSTAR 450w ATX power supply.

Not having one though, I have replaced two capacitors (one with a bulging top) and another with a leaking top, three rectifiers (two shorted and the third had a cracked case), and have ordered transistor Q1 (also shorted). Will also need to repair trace damage on the bottom of the circuit board. Other components check out OK so I hope it will be working again after the transistor arrives Monday. I need the -5v this one supplies to get my old computer running so I can retrieve last year's tax info.

I cannot get my computer to start up. I am trying

i guess u r a professional..as u r handling power supplies..
ur point of view has always a priority..

no 'the led on the power supply be bright at first and then go dim after connecting the power cord'..this happens when there's no/incorrect oscillation/frequency due to push-pull failure, incorrect wattage output etc.
well, itz likely to b the power supply causing it..!!..

however, check the following:

1) the smps itself may b defective/faulty..check the outputs of smps viz. 0v (black~ground); +12v (yellow); +5v (red, green~ps-on, violet~pg & grey~sb); -12v (blue); -5v(white); +3.3v(orange)..
the 'oscillator and error amplifier ic', or pwm switching regulator circuit..look for defective protector-transformer/resistance(esp 4.7k)/mosfet..

2) if itz not the smps, then it must b ur main/mother board..see with a debug card for mb error..may b short..look for defective capacitors(esp above 1000mfd)/mosfets..go through the mb's south bridge n the circuit lie around atx connector....

3) remove/clean dust neatly..dust is non-uniform in nature n may cause jam/short circuitry/excess resistance n many more..resulting an increase in heat..

4) open the CPU Heat-Sink with fan out of the socket..put some "Heat Sink Compound" (available in local electronics chip level spare market) between the cpu/processor and the CPU Heat Sink *** fan..resit/fit it tightly in position..

5) see if the ram(s) is loose/faulty..open clean/remove carbon & or oxide formed on the teeth with an eraser n resit it..

6) check cmos battery (above +3v)..

..plz give higher priority to step2 (as listed above) CAREFULLY..

always better to seek advise from ur system admin/vendor....

Burnt out resistor near coils on bestec atx-300-123 rev.c2 no diagram so don't know the value of the resistor.any ideas?

First of all, it is very unlikely that a resistor "burns out" for being defective itself. Usually they are designed to run around 50% of their rated wattag. So they can get hot to the touch but are not over stressed. Therefore, it is more likely that you have something else that caused excessive current to go thru he resistor. So the point is that you can replace the resistor and more than likely it will fail again. You should start with a schematice of the circuit and look for components that could fail in a shorted condition and therefore cause excessive current to go thru the resistor. A schematic will tell you the value of the resistor. I am guessing that it is on a PC board and is therefore "surface mount" style. Look for defects in the board trace causing shorts. A good place to start. Hope you find it. Lots of Luck.

Pc not switching on even after changing smps. even fan not switching on in smps

Dear,
You can test you smps simply by shorting any of the back wire and green wire. this will switch on your smps withour connecting with mother board. IF it the fan rotate, SMPS is ok.
If you need more trouble shooting on SMPS you have to measure the volate on each wire after powering on.
