SOURCE: need to know how to operate Cartier Tank Francaise Chronography W

The top button is for chronograph function and puts the chronograph seconds hand in motion. The bottom button is for resetting chronograph seconds hand to zero.
Do as follows:
1) push the top button once- seconds hand starts moving,
2) push the top button once more- seconds hand stops,
3) push the bottom button once- seconds hand returns to zero.
You can repeat as many times as you like- seconds hand will allways start the countdown from zero.
Depending on what movement your watch has(mechanical or quartz), there can be more variations, but the basics are as described.
If you need more info, supply full info of your watch(make, model, numbers, etc.), please.

SOURCE: I have a cartier watch and want to know if it is

  • Visit an authorized Cartier watch dealer at a high-end jewelry store. Use a jeweler's loupe to inspect the Cartier logo, the dial, the hour, minute and second hands, color, case back and the movement, which is the small electronic or mechanical device that runs the watch. Also examine the bracelet or strap for future comparisons of Cartiers at other dealers. Obtain a copy of the Cartier sales brochure or catalog and read it.
  • Inspect the movement by asking the seller to remove the case back to view it. It will be engraved with the Cartier name. If the seller balks at the request, don't buy the watch. The seller may have something to hide, according to Spotcounterfeits.co.uk.
  • Consider the heft of the Cartier if you are considering purchasing a watch from an independent seller. Knockoff Cartiers are considerably lighter than the genuine article because they are made with cheap materials. Examine the Cartier logo to see if it's spelled correctly. Knockoffs usually originate from non-English speaking countries where English is not the primary language and workmanship is poor.
  • Drop a tiny bit of water on the crystal. Cartiers feature a sapphire glass crystal, in which the water beads on contact. If the water smears, the crystal is a cheap imitation.
  • Examine the Cartier trademark polished cabochon gemstone on the crown. The stone should be set firmly in the crown but not glued on. Use a jeweler's loupe to look for traces of glue.
  • Examine the Cartier logo of twin Cs on the case back, dial and strap buckle. The logos should be gracefully produced with no rough stamping.

I need a serial number for a women 's Cartier watch I bought. I am not sure if it is authentic or not.

Take it to a jeweller and they will tell you free of charge. They can tell as soon as they take the back off.

There are resources in the main link to help you, but removing the back and having an expert look is the only way. China is making lots, but they have a cheap Chinese watch movement inside them.

It can be quite difficult to tell fake Cartier watches from genuine Cartier watches, but there are a few guidelines you can follow:
Inscription The simplest way to tell a fake Cartier watch is to remove the caseback. A genuine Cartier watch will have "Cartier" inscribed on the movement.
Weight Like most luxury accessories, genuine Cartier watches are quite heavy, especially when compared to the lightweight fakes. This solid weight is due to the watch's quality materials.
Glass A genuine Cartier watch has scratch-proof glass, which won't be found on the fakes. This is something that's fairly easy to test. The sapphire-quality glass of a genuine Cartier is also non-smear, so if you drop a few beads of water on it, they will roll off. On fake Cartiers it will smear.
Cabochon stone The winder of a genuine Cartier watch features a polished gemstone, called a cabochon stone. If there's no stone, it's a fake Cartier watch. The gem should be securely fastened, not glued on.
Serial Number This should appear on the back or side of a genuine Cartier. The number will be engraved as a number of fake Cartiers feature a serial number that's barely etched onto the watch.

Not a good idea. What starts as a 'simple battery change' could result in $500 in repairs. It is a Cartier! If it is a fake Cartier then by all means destroy it. Just realize that you don't really know what you are doing and you are about to perform brain surgery on a very expensive watch.

I just received a Cartier tank Francaise Mens

mcdevito75 here, The easiest way to check the authentisity of your Cartier watch is by a jeweler, try to find a small watch repair jeweler over a fancy place which may charge you. You can also check Cartier watches on ebay, or simply type in Cartier watch on the search of your computers home page. The jeweler is best though, specially if your not that familiar with watches. the little I know tells me the Cartier name on the face should be Staright all the letters exactky the same (CARTIER) and all the hour and minute markers the exact same.

Can you tell me if this is a genuine Cartier number. I am watching a Cartier Tank Francaise, there are no papers - but the seller is states that the back of the watch is engraved -cartier-water resistant -...

"The seller states" ? Why did the seller not provide you pix of the back of the watch ? I would be VERY skeptical about this. If you really want a Cartier, you can buy one used from a number of reputable websites, such as TimeZone.com and Chrono24.com; there are verified reputable sellers there you can buy from. Note the prices on these sites; they are what these watches really cost used, usually a very good indication of whether a timepiece is authentic or not. BE CAREFUL on Ebay ! :(

WHERE CAN I GET A RESERVOIR FOR MY CARTIER LIGHTER

The reservoir tank can be the bane of existence for a Cartier lighter owner. Unlike most butane lighters which have gas tanks integral to the lighter, Cartier utilizes a user removable tank. Cartier only warrants the tank for two years. I've also seen tanks that say 12 months. New Cartiers come with one spare tank. I've seen spare tanks come up on eBay from time to time, for $30 - $50. If not, picking up a beat-up Cartier on the cheap just to remove and use its tank is an idea. Cartier does not sell spare parts of any kind (other than flints), so if your lighter needs a new tank they will probably insist you get a complete maintenance service, which can cost up to $300.
