On the sharp remote you will find an input button. You depress the input button and a menu will appear and highlight the input you are presently on. Hit the input button again to select the next input. If you wait to long to depress the input button it will not work and you have to begin again. This unit will only hightlight inputs have a component hooked to that input.

SOURCE: lg lcd tv keeps changing chanels
Come on, lets try to solve this. Take the batteries out of the remote so it can't interfere and try changing the channels and volume with the buttons on the tv. If this works then someone has spillled something onto the remote and gummed it all out. You simply need to take the remote apart and clean it out. If the buttons on the tv do th same as the remote did then yes, take it back.

Here is what you need to do to get back to the original configuration: Setup > Factory Reset by Input, and confirm that you want to reset the settings.
If the reset you require is to correct a more serious issue, you may want to try an EEPROM reset. If you call Amergence Technology at 866-965-3842, their Level 2 Tech Support agents may be able to walk you through it.
I don't see where in your user manual that the kids can change the firmware, here is a link to an online copy of your user manual if you do not have one handy.
Your best bet is to rest to factory settings that should clear everything up for you
