I forgot my password for my Dell Latitude E6400,

I forgot my password for my Dell Latitude E6400, My Laptop loads the Dell Screen then it goes to a white screen that says "This Computer System #******* is protected by a Password Authentication System. You cannot access the data on this computer without the correct Password. please type in the system or Administrator Password and press enter. I've tried the F2 and F12 booting options but it just says "preparing booting options" and just goes to the Password screen again. I have all of the data backed up so none of it is important, I've tried to use the Genuine disc that came with my Laptop but it won't recognize it. can anyone help me Bypass this Password without having to go to Dell, I don't have the money to pay 80-120 dollars to them to help me. or if someone can help me get the Laptop to recognize the disc so I can Wipe the computer myself and reinstall my Windows 7 Professional 32 bit program I would be very thankful.

This lock screen comes up before the boot process so Hiren's wont help you here.

You need to take off the CMOS battery - on the E6400, if you flip the laptop over, there is one central screw....undo it and slide the panel off toward the front of the laptop. Lift it off. You'll see the CMOS battery just to the left of the fan (assuming the front edge of the laptop is nearest you). Disconnect it carefully.....take the main battery off too. Flip the laptop over and hold the power button for 20 secs. Now flip it back, CMOS battery back in, main battery back on. Put the cover back on too and sit it upright again - power up, wait for the "Bad checksum" or "BIOS settings have changed" message. Set the time and date in the BIOS. Reboot - then the laptop boots up.

You can remove or change the Window's User or administrator's password. You need access to a computer with Internet access to download the Hiren's Boot CD and burn it onto a CD. Then insert this CD into the laptop/computer and boot up the laptop/computer with the Hiren's CD and follow the instructions. There are very useful utilities CD and it a Linux boot CD which contains quite a lot of Utility programs including a password removal program. Click on one of these links to download HIREN'S BOOTCD :- http://www.hirensbootcd.net/ http://67.20.82.163/

The first one can be unlocked using a program called Active@password.
The second one can be unlocked for $30. Hope this helps.

Wlan card disabled

The Dell Latitude E6400 laptop comes with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor for fast computing and an NVIDIA graphics card for video playback, gaming and Web browsing. The laptop has a built in Wi-Fi card, letting you connect to the Internet on-the-go. However, if you're unfamiliar with Dell or the laptop's factory installed Windows Vista operating system, you might not know how to enable to Wi-Fi.

Slide the switch on the side of the laptop toward the front of the laptop. This switch enables Wi-Fi connectivity on the Dell Latitude E6400. When switched into the back position, the Wi-Fi is turned off. Turn on your Dell Latitude E6400 laptop and log into Windows Vista. Click on the Windows "Start" button. Click on "Wireless," located in the Start menu's "Show" list. A list of currently broadcasting wireless networks appears on screen. With your Wi-Fi enabled, you can connect to any of these available networks. Secured networks ask you for a password when you click "Connect," while unsecured networks connect automatically.

Have to reset screen resolution every time

albrechtchri,

To resolve this issue you may want to reinstall the video card drivers into the system. This should resolve you having to change the resolution every time you start up the computer. If you need to download the drivers for your Latitude E6400 you can click the link below and choose the the video card that you have installed in your computer.

Dell latitude e6400 system or administrator password

So you have a locked BIOS password.. this can be quite difficult to get past. There is one way which i have tried which is a hardware hack. It worked for me multiple times but i will say do at your own risk. It wont effect the hard drive at all.

Turn the laptop over and find the bit that you can open where the RAM upgrade goes into. Usually has a little chip (technology chip) as a symbol. Open that bit up and look for some text on the motherboard called CMOS its a circuit chip thats on the other side so you would just see little bits of solder going around in a square. its small too.

Once you have located it get a flat head screwdriver (must be flathead) and put the flat head screw driver on the CMOS chip bit so that you short circuit the CMOS chip it must touch a few of the solder bits on the motherboard to shortcircuit but only the CMOS chip. when you have the screw driver on the right bit turn the laptop on with the screwdriver still shortcircuiting the CMOS chip. When the computer starts it will say something along the lines of CMOS error or CMOS cannot load and it will reset the BIOS password.

Good luck
