You have to be the computers administrator to change any values on any hard drive on your computer. Click start control panel user accounts on the users tab click the name of the computer administrator you must have full control Click start click to open on my computer you should see your usb drive could be E: or something right click select properties there will be an array of options select the sharing tab option then advanced sharing make sure you have a tick in the share this folder box then click permissions make sure you have all 3 boxes ticked full control changes and read in windows 7 Click start control panel user accounts click on the administrators account if you have made one or you will have to create one in windows XP Click start right click on my computer select open
Right click the icon of your usb drive (It should be E:/ or something)
Click Properties in the menu that comes up
Click the Sharing tab
Click permissions
And finally, click Allow next to Full Control.

Click start click on my computer you should see your usb drive right click then select format another way is to control panel administrative tools computer management disk management right click on your drive select format

Hope this helps.

Try putting the memory card in your PC and formatting it from My Computer.

If you have a camera that takes this kind of card, you can try to format the memory card from there as well.

SOURCE: how to format my corrupted

If you a using a card reader that plugs into your PC and it STILL doesn't read from the card, this means that the card itself is defective and needs to replaced. You CAN try using another card reader to see if that helps.

Hope this helps. :)

SOURCE: my card is not detected

It would be a good idea to test the memory in another PC, if the problem continues, the SD has a file system that isn't recognized by your operating system or it has a bad file allocation table, if can be read only from a phone, camera or PDA , and it has data, you can use the corresponding device acting as reader connected to PC using its USB cable to retrieve your data from the card.

When I turn on my camera it state unable to read memory card and gives you the choice to format. I have used the card and do not want to format it.

This is likely due to the memory card being damaged or it losing a part of data. The only solutions are either to purchase a new memory card, or to save the data from the memory card onto a computer or another location and then format it.

My memory card is unreadable. I insert it into both of my cameras and into my computer and they all say the format is wrong and they won't read it.

plug your memory card into your computer
go to my computer right click on the memory card then click format.
Maybe one of your cameras have a format function on them, go to settings and it might be in advanced or memory then click format.

oops i accidently put this in clarification... dumb computer locked up and changed it...

Can't read memory card

Try plugging the camera into your computer. Under my computer the camera should pop up as a new drive. Right click and choose format. If you have a card reader built into your computer you can simply plug the card into that and do the same thing. Either way you do it, that may help. Your card has been corrupted and the camera can not fix it. Windows may be able to fix it instead, it may not though. In the end you may have to purchase a whole new memory card for the camera. They can become corrupted and sometimes they get corrupted in a way that the device itself can't fix. I had a Multimedia Card get corrupted in my cell phone and the phone couldn't format it, nor could windows. Luckily there was a program for another type of cell phone that worked on mine that fixed it by doing a low level format of the card. This option isn't available to you on a camera, so you're somewhat limited in the ways you can repair the memory card. Peter
