Question about Pioneer PRO-119 60" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Picture has no horizontal control or loud pop and no picture

Recently my PRO-119 has a new problem. At first the picture was fine then after several hours the picture would lose horizontal control or the set would make a loud popping sound and go black. For a while if the set was turned off and then back on the picture was fine for an undetermined amount of time. Eventually it would do the same thing over. The remote will not turn the set on or off now and if you turn the set on by the main power button it comes on with no horizontal or vertical control, just a wavey picture. Funny thing is the green light on the power button is red in the off position and green when the set is on.....USUALLY....But now when you use the main power button it comes on green and then gradually blinks and turns red but the picture keeps waving on. I have had problems with cracked welds on the component board and a high voltage issue in the past. HELP!

My son poured koolaid in my tv and the tv still has a red light on but wont turn on to show a picture what do i do or need to do???

Call a service tech to get a price quote or just purchase a new tv. It's not a good situation in any case, but since it was a liquid there could be several part issues with the t.v.

If you don't mind opening the thing, open it up and follow the power lead inside the TV. Somewhere along the line should be a fuse. I'd start there.

I have an older model PioneerProjection Monitor Receiver (model Pro-119). I have been experiencing color convergence problems that until recently was able to solve by using the owners manual's adjusting...

If you have a cable box, unplug the tv and cable box from wall for 1 minutes, then plug both back in. This should solve your problem. It worked for mine.

I have a older model

You will need to replace both convergence ICs. This is a simple common repair for all projection TVs. If you would like I can post a link where you can order your ICs and they provide step by step instructions on how to remove the old and install the new ones.

The loud "pop" sounds like high voltage arcing coming from one of the CRT' may have to pull each CRT out and put silicon sealant on the anode connectors to prevent the arcing.(one of the CRT's may be arcing internally also and the only cure is to replace that CRT) If you let the arcing continue,it will short out the horizontal output transistor sooner or later.......

No picture

humm from the sound of a loud pop that would tell me you have a high voltatge problem. at the shop i have seen when i replaced tubes in this set that when the tubes are unbalenced (screen voltages) then sound will come up with no picture. then the tubes warm up and the picture comes up. this is an idication that one of the tubes have gone bad. and now that it has completly failed i suspect it has taken the horizontal ouput transistor and possilby flyback tranforner, NOW what all that tech talk means? not good im sorry. but in my opion this set is not good. these set cost about 800 new at your local walmart. We charge at my shop bout 600 to 700 for such a repair..of course u may get a tech to look at it and find something simple. but i feel this is the case if you have any more qestion feel free to email me or ask again here

EchoKaos may not have resoldered his PS board, which most units in that line need. This will most likely solve the problem. A virtually complete resolder is needed on that board, not just the obviously problem areas.

If not -

If the hor lines are upward and curved slightly and a couple of inches apart, then the blue Screen trimpot on the focus block is most likely turned up too high. When turned down the lines will disappear.

This mucks with your grayscale, but then it's trashed anyway by now, and after reducing it, you will have to do a new grayscale on your set, or have one done by ISF. Or a tech who knows how to set the Screen controls, since ISF does not teach that.

Replacement of the board is never recommended, unless the board caught fire and is all burned up. If the convergence circuits quit working then you still see a picture, but the 3 colors just dont line up with each other. The picture shutting off, closing in and then popping back to full suggests a loose solder joint in the horizontal deflection circuits. This is something that cannot be adjusted in the service mode and the repair should be handled by a qualified tech.
