Hi. Open up the back of the dryer after unplugging it. Take a deep breath. This is not that hard. A dryer is a very simple thing but you need to relax and figure out what the parts are. A dryer has a very basic parts list. The obvious I will not go into with but here goes with the electrical in the guts of the machine. A motor to turn the drum. A heating element. A sensor to sense high temps for safety shutoff of the element. A blower for air. Keep in mind as you look at this that usually power wires are black or red. You will see some wires that are attached to a sensor and then on to the heating elements. Take a test light or volt ohm meter and see if the high temp limit sensor is bad. This can be a simple ten dollar one from Radio Shack. That is, it will it get continuity through it. You may have to detach the wires on this sensor to do this test. The sensor is usually a flattened round disc with two leads coming out of it. Test the element same as the sensor. Take the part where there is no continuity through them to the appliance parts store with the model and serial number of the dryer for appropriate parts. Maybe ten bucks. I know it sounds scary but you may learn something and if all else fails just pickup the phone and call the repairman. Hope this helps.
good luck

Thanks for responding, but I needed help replacing the bellow on a front load washer, not the dryer. I really appreciate your attempt to help me.

okay what is the main problem

  • Dean Hutto Jan 10, 2013

I wam looking for clarification on the process. I've searched and found two different methods. One that is saying you need to disassemble the top, remove the door and so on and the other it appears as though it can be done from the front. I have the new bellow already. One of the instructions talks about making sure that the new bellow is exactly lined up. Sounds a little intimidating. Ay ideas?

Boot rips

The door bellow on front loaders do wear out and require replacement. However, overloading the washer can contribute to premature wear or rips and tears due to items getting caught in the seal. If the bellow is ripped, it will require replacing or the washer will leak. The following link explains step-by-step how to install a door bellow on a Kenmore Elite front loader:

Read through the link provided and let me know if you have any questions.

NOTE: There is another method you may try as well. Although I do not prefer this next method because these washing machines are very heavy, an alternative way of replacing the door bellow is to remove the lower toe panel and tilt the washer back at a 45 degree angle instead of removing the washer front panel. If you use this method, make sure it rests against the wall and will not tip forward. This allows the wash tub to drop down and away from the front panel and gives you access to the the rear bellow clamp through the bottom. This can save you some time.

If you would like some helpful exploded view diagrams of your washer that you can reference, you can use any of these web sites:

Door seal tangled in wash load.

It sounds like one of your retaining clamps may have come loose or something sharp may have snagged the door bellow and pulled it loose. You will need to inspect the bellow for any potential rips or tears and ensure the front and rear clamps that hold it in place are still intact and useable. You may be able to simply reattach the bellow and won't require parts. The following link explains how to replace a door bellow and lists the steps required for accessing and installing the clamps:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385210-replacing_door_bellow_kenmore_elite

This isn't difficult, but it can be tedious. If you require replacement parts, you can order from any of the following web sites:

searspartsdirect.com
appliancepartspros.com
pcappliancerepair.com
repairclinic.com

The part numbers for Kenmore Elite are as follows:

Door Bellow: 8181850
Front Bellow Clamp: 8182211
Rear Bellow Clamp: 8182210

All these sites offer great service if you determine you need parts. Shop around for the best prices.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.
