Short answer, if the motherboard is truly "fried", no. Sorry to say but unless you have access to the full motherboard schematic, and all tools needed (considering these are put together by robots), chances are its cheaper, easier and faster to get another. Check ebay for the best deals, but only purchase from reputable sellers who accept returns, and be very wary of buying used.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of.(from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones)
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Goodluck!

It could very easily be either a fried motherboard, a broken connection on the DC jack within the laptop, or a fried DC Jack. It is typically at least a $200 fix if you go through GeekSquad or the manufacturer - maybe more if the motherboard is fried. Unfortunately, there isn't an easy solution to this one.

1. In this case your motherboard must be fried or power unit on the motherboard.
2. So its better to take to a repair shop or toshiba service center.
3. Motherboard or fried parts have to be replaced.

A repairman said the motherboard was shot

Yes all motherboards are replaceable, Your just going to have to find the correct part # you need. The motherboard shouldn't run you more than 100$, although a repair shop will charge upwards of 300-400$ for the time to install.
