Do you use an external mouse or the built in touchpad/pointing stick? If you use an external mouse try another and see if the random movement disappears.
If you are using the touchpad/pointing stick for day to day use, plug in a mouse if you have one spare, go to the control panel in whatever version of MS Windows the laptop is running and do the following:Start Button > control panel > mouse (goto the hardware tab on the window that opens) choose the 'synaptics' device > properties > driver > choose 'disable' then ok. This should disable the touchpad if the random jumping stops then it is probably a physical problem with the touchpad/pointing stick, you may want to contact HP and request a repair.

Stationed in Afghanistan. Have a HP NC6320. Fan runs, no post beep or video output. Replaced CPU, RAM, HDD.

Hello Stephen
The problem could be with your SMPS which might not be providing 5 Volts to check the Power Good State of the Devices.
Let me know if you have changed the UPS.

Can't reinstall xp pro on my hp compaq nc6320

Stephane, I ran into the same problem after wiping out my Compaq nc6320 and trying to install XP Pro. The fix is to disable SATA Native mode. To do this: Enter F10 Setup then System Configuration>Device Configurations>SATA Native Mode and disable it, save the changes and now you should be able to install XP Pro. Remember, when I did this the drive was blank, I don't know if that makes a difference or not. Best of luck! Bryan P.S. If you want to enable SATA native mode after you have installed XP Pro check out this link:
