Setting up my computer and moniter says, drive 0 not found:serial ata,sata-0 hit f1 to continue, when I do nothing happens.

Is the computer new? If so, return it. If not, Unplug from AC, reseat ALL HDD cables, reboot, If that fails remove the HDD , test, replace if necessary. Have you tried a system restore/recovery, If the computer does not ID the HDD, it's doubtful you can.

What's your problem?a way to turn the SATA ports to ON in the BIOS

You can go into the bios and on those drives that are not found you can turn them OFF or N/A. They are probably set to AUTO or ON.

If that does not work I would say remove the power cord, remove the cover, then remove the main power to the motherboard then plug the main power to the motherboard back it. The main power will run from the power supply and the end of it will be about a 2 inch strip that plugs into the board. Press and hold the little catch on it then pull it out of the socket on the board. Put it back in firmly. Reboot and see what happens.

Change my gx620 motherboard with ide connector for dvd rom to a 745 motherboard which has sata connection for dvd rom so i purchased a sata dvd rom and sata cable plugged everything in but the dvd rom wont...

With sata there are two cables, just like ide. One is the power and the other is for data. The data cable goes from the device to the motherboard. The power comes from the power supply. If your power supply does not have a sata connection you can purchase an adapter that will turn an available 4pin Molex into a sata connection.

First, do you have a 40-wire or an 80-wire parallel-ATA ribbon-cable?

If you have the 40-wire cable, you need to set the jumpers on both of the old drives.
Set one disk-drive to 'master' (maybe also add 'with slave present').
Set one disk-drive to 'slave'.

If you have the 80-wire cable, you need to set the jumpers on both of the old drives.
Set both disk-drives to 'C(able)S(elect)'.

Is the new SATA drive just a "data" drive, or did you install Windows onto it?

  • Insert the Windows XP CD-ROM into the CD drive, and then restart the computer.
  • Click to select any options that are required to start the computer from the CD drive if you are prompted.
  • When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.
  • Press 1 (One) to select windows XP and then hit enter.
  • When you are prompted, type the Administrator password. If the administrator password is blank, just press ENTER.
  • At the command prompt, start typing

COPY D:\i386\ntldr C:\ (Considering that D is your CD Rom Drive)
COPY D:\i386\ntdetect C:\ (a file that may also be missing)

Then rebuild the boot configuration boot.ini file by
Attrib -H -R -S C:\boot.ini (if not found skip the next line)
DEL C:\boot.ini
BootCfg /Rebuild

If you are looking at Device Manager, the computer must be working to some degree. Since there are no drives on the SATA controller, you're probably using an IDE drive and don't need the SATA controller anyway. Disable it in the BIOS. And get more memory.

Dimension 3100 Won't Boot

Make sure your HD Cables are all firmly plugged in, and that all drives are starting when you turn on the computer. You can tell with harddrives as they will slightly whine, and have a small, steady vibration to them. If they are all starting, and all cables are fully seated, check in your Setup utility that the drives themselves are Auto-Detect. If none of this fixes your issue, you may have to refer your computer to a computer repair shop.

Hope this helps!
