Software runs until I power down at next power up software dies.
The program is Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing for Kids, a Win 95 progam. I'm running Win XP. After restarting the computer if I click on the clock in the program ( to run a timed touch typing drill) I get the error that the program has an error and needs to close. If I reinstall the program it will run until I shut down the machine and then give me the error after I start it again. I have XP set to run the program in Windows 95 compatibility.

Re: Software runs until I power down at next power up...
I would suggest purchasing the version of the Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing v 1.5. It's compatible with Windows XP. I've also looked at the software description and you are able to select the age group of the typing test.
However, if some reason you have to continue with the same version. What error message do you recieve?

That program is very old; they're on version 20 or something like that, and may not be able to run on Win7 at all. (You really should just get an updated version. (v.15 is only $5-6))
The only chance of getting that app working under Win 7 would be to run the program with "compatibility mode" set to Windows XP... Or maybe even Windows 98 or 95 for something that old.
To change compatibility settings manually for a program, right-click the icon for the program, click Properties, and then click the Compatibility tab.
Try right clicking on the executable file that starts it, an go to the compatability mode tab. Set it to Windows 98. Not guaranteed to work, but a small chance. The program was made for Win 95, 98 ans Win ME. Get a newer version, if it doesn't work. I suggest amazon.com. Depending on version, it should cost under $20. Just make sure is compatible with Win XP.
Go to your start up menu. Click Control Panel. Click Programs. Click Uninstall a program. Scroll down to Mavis Beacon Typing. Select Uninstall. Your Windows system may ask you" do you want to continue" click yes. Remove any unwanted or outdated programs this way. Don't bog down your system with programs you don't use. They take up valuable space. Be blesed..
Assuming you have not switched to Windows Vista with the new hardrive - as Mavis Beacon 17 does not work in that platform - then- it sounds as though the file is corrupted. I would uninstall and reinstall the product. Unfortunately, difficult to do with out a cd or good original disk to start from. If you have your order number or purchase numbers when you bought your download, then customer support should help you get a clean download.
Here is some information on system configuration- it is similar for the setup of Mavis beacon 17
