replacing the mobo is much cheaper that to purchase a new computer but purchasing a new computer is much better than replacing your mobo. because in the near future, you need to upgrade your system for better use.

My vid card fried and i do not know what my motherboard supports so i can buy a new card

Fried? You need to know that your mobo's PCIe video interface is okay if you want to have a new card work. If you have an aged system go on and search for the part number (usually on the PCB near the videocard slot) and see what you're dealing with.... That's just not a very thorough diagnosis of your system state to say 'fried,' but PCIe has been the way of the world for 10 years now....

No monitor/mouse/keyboard response. All else seems ok!

The mobo probably has a fuse soldered down near the USB ports2_bing.gif. The typical fuse is flat, about 1/8 x 1/4 inch, may be green in color, and may have a number on it. A simple continuity test will check the fuse, If the fuse is blown, check with an electronics supply house for the replacement fuse. If unable to repair, you might try a USB PCI card2_bing.gif.

How to put a better mother-board into my dell inspiron 1501

Motherboards are model specific because of processor and other differences. There is a model number tag on the motherboard and that is what has to ordered. The service manual link is below that will help in the dis assembly.

My P4vmm2 mobo burned my 512mb graphics card

I don't think its a matter of your motherboard or what graphics card you put in it in this instance. It seems as though you have a bad power supply. If your power supply is bad then it will fry your motherboard with too much voltage and cook your processor also. I believe that is the reason your motherboard fried and it's almost a guarantee.
*only do If all else fails and you have opened a computer up before*-I would suggest looking at the power supply and unscrewing it from the screws holding it to the case from the back and taking it out and looking at it. Just make sure you write down what connectors go to what parts on the motherboard and you will be fine. If you can do that also right down the serial number and brand name and buy a power supply of similar value and same name and rating and replace it and you should be problem free.

Looking for a compatible processor for this mobo

It is impossible to fry a motherboard by using the wrong processor, the board simply won't post. You can use a chart at the ECS website, your motherboard is a Socket A type. Looks like the fastest processor that they have tested is a Athlon XP 3000+.
