How do you replace the drive belt in a kenmore dryer model 88042

Pull the fron off. Remove tub, should have a spring loaded idler pulley next to the motor. Make sure that it is not broke and spins freely. Also check tub support rolers on each side. They shoule spin freely. If ok, put belt around tub, install tu. Put belt around spring loaded pulley. May need a hand holding tub while you install pulley. Put front on. Make sure the fron of cover fits inside the tub seal. Good luck. email me with issues, bobby.crochet@lyondellbasell,com.

Reattached tub, but spin cycle doesn't work

the belt might have come off of the tub take it back apart and look underneath and see if the drive belt is loose or on the floor when the tub came loose it probably slipped the belt off before stopping.

What is the configuration to install the belt

you need to place the belt completely around the tub which requires removing the front panel...once you get the belt around the tub you will bring the belt together in one hand under tub the belt around the motor shaft while pushing the belt guide to the side... the best explanation i can give is its like a pulley on a car the tensioner rest on the belt to keep it tight during operation. hope this helps

Is it possible for a washing machine motor or other part to leak anything toxic such as any lubricants or other solutions?

Yes, there are bearings and they use grease, so when they die, grease escapes. usually this or rust is all that happens in the tub, which I presume is your issue.

Below the machine there are more items, but they do not affect the inside of the tub..
the transmissions have lube that drips under the machine, and belts leave a really black material around...

Washing machine making loud rattling noises and smells of burning rubber

Your washing machine has a belt on a pulley and that belt is being stretched. That belt is attached to a motor that turns your laundry tub. Your washer if out of balance will shake and rattle and the tub might be locked in place and the motor is forcing the belt to turn but the tub is not turning. If you are not mechanically inclined call a washer service repair man.

I have a 30 year old top load maytag that has a burn smell and did not complete cycle

Likely a burned belt. Tilt machine back and belts are underneath machine. Always replace them as a set. At right front is pump pulley. Turn it by hand to be sure it's not bound up.

Secondly run hand up the inner tub to the top until you find a finger wide space at the top of the tub between the tub and the upper tub cover. Stick your fingers as far into that space as possible and run them 360 degrees all the way around the top of the inner tub. This checks for clothing that may have gone over the top of the tub and gotten caught there. This occurrence and something caught in the pump can burn belts.

Lastly, if the first two tests don't reveal a problem, replace both belts and test the machine again with agitate and spin to see if belt is overheated again. If not, you have fixed problem. If so, you likely have a problem beyond your abilities and the value of the machine.

Good Luck

Belt won't stay on the pulley

These belts are really sensitive. Try messing around with it. Making srue that the belt isnt coming off the big tub pully. You tub pully isnt loose is it. Make sure the bolt that hold the pully onto the tub is tight on. Make sure the pully isnt loose. Inspect it for any small craks where that boltt tightens up. If the pully check out ok. Check the small motor pully as well. Make sure that isnt loose or anything. Pull on it if if its loose then thats you problem.. Inspect both pullys good. I would assume belt is in good shape right? If both pullys check out ok, then i would try to get the belt on and just mess around with it, spin the pully and if you se the belt starting to slip off adjust it as you keep spinning the pully....hope this helps

Broken belt on a Whirlpool dryer

Fix it yourself, and you do not need to remove the tub. Put the belt around the pulley and pull the tub towards the belt. You may have bought a belt that is too short. But upon a belt breaking they will stretch pretty bad also
