Who is your Internet service provider? Is it cable or DSl? What is the model number of your router? You can access Internet through the modem that means the modem is working fine. it is just the Internet connection settings which might not be working properly. You can open the setup page of the router and change the settings manually. Try this router installation help website and see if that helps you
You Internet access is through the cable or DSL modem. Connect your wireless router to the cable or DSL modem and then configure the wireless router with the wireless encryption settings. Then configure the wireless cards in the laptops with the router's encryption settings etc. This will then allow the laptops to connect wirelesslt to the wireless router and the Internet. To secure your wireless network from unauthorized access, please click on this link and follow my instructions :-http://www.fixya.com/support/r3559128-wireless_router_security
Are you trying to run the CD to setup your router? You can setup your router manually also. Connect the computer to the router and modem to the router. Change the Internet connection settings on the router according to your Internet service provider. Read Linksys router setup
First step is to make sure if the modem is working. Connect your computer directly to modem with ethernet cable and see if you can log on to internet! if yes
next step connect modem to your router's WAN port with an ethernet cable and then connect your computer to one of the LAN ports of router with ethernet cable. Power down all devices and power up modem first wait until all lights are on and then router wait until all lights are on then your computer! 9 out of 10 times this works! try good luck!!
first there should be 2 cables connected the device. 1) power adapter 2) ethernet cable from either a dsl modem or a cable modem connected to the wan connector with most cable modem service its usually dhcp meaning you are always connected to the internet with some there is ppoe connection where a user name and password is used to make a connection to be on the internet with the dsl modem there are some dsl companies that are dhcp just like the cable modem companies. with the ethernet cable connected the wan port on your router there should be some kind of activity light on the router but check with the type connection from your dsl or cable internet provider. also you will need a second ethernet cable to connect your computer to setup and configure the wireless settings and wep protection. need more info?
Try rebooting both the modem and the router. It could be that the modem didn't pick up it's ip number when the internet went down. Then try pluggint you computer directly into the modem first to make sure it is setup and working properly. Then plug in the router (to the modem) and the PC plugged in directly to the router and check.
Once you have it connecting at that point then check the wireless settings on both the router and the pc. Then enable the wireless on the pc, unplug the LAN and switch to wireless network on the pc and see if it won't work.
If it works plugged in on the LAN but then not on the wireless then either your configuration isn't correct (ie wrong gateway ip number...gateway should be the same ip number as the router...ie 192.168.***.***) or perhaps the wireless part of the router died. It is possible for the wireless to die and the LAN (hard wired connection) to still work.
Do you have your DSL set up with just the modem connected to one computer? You mentioned that "there is no internet connection problem without router". If you don't have the internet connection working without the router anyway, then how do you expect it to work with the router?
First, you need to make sure that you can plug in one computer to the modem and get an internet connection. This needs to be done with the Verizon Setup CD if you haven't done it already and by connecting your computer to the modem with the USB or Ethernet cable (you can use only one.) I would recommend using the Ethernet cable since this is what you will be using with the router. Once you have the Internet set up with one computer this way, then you can move on to the router.
Disconnect the computer from the modem and actually pull the power plug from the modem. Modems often will not reassign IP addresses when you change what device you plug into them, and thus need to be power cycled. Plug the ethernet cable into the WAN port on the Linksys (and make sure the other end is still connected to the modem) and plug the power cables of both the modem and the router back in.
You should now be able to connect your computer to the router with another ethernet cable (to one of the numbers ports, NOT the WAN port. This is reserved for the modem) and run the setup again.
