Question about Brother MFC-9440CN Laser Printer

1 Answer

I have a Brother MFC 9440CN and recently replaced all the toner cartridges and the black print seems fine, but all colors are very light. The does not seem to be any warning or error messages. I have powered it on/off a couple of times, but I can not get it to print like it is capable. Any suggestions? Thank you, Jim Aikins

Light print on side of paper. color black copies, print, internal

Ninty-five percent of all image issues like this are caused by the carona-drum-toner assembly. I have not worked on this model but the only way to diagnose the issue is to try a new drum / toner cartridge and see what impact it has. Then once you resolve the issue you can discuss the service life after the fact.

How do I set Brother 9440 MFC to print using black cartridge only?

Hello,

You can set the MFC-9440CN to print with the black toner cartridge only through the printer drivers.

If you are using Mac, this needs to be changed before you print or set a preset.

If you are using windows, follow the below steps.

1. Go to Start menu \ Control Panel \ Printers (devices and printers for windows 7)
2. Right click on the MFC-9440CN and select "printing preferences"
3. Under the "basic" tab, you will see "color mode"; simply select "mono"

Thank you,

How do i reset my toner it's not out of toner

Hello Thewwrental,

From the image I assume you are using a MFC-9440CN, 9450CDN or a MFC9840CDW.

In any of these cases, you can reset the toner cartridge by opening the fron cover and pressing the "clear/back" button.
You will be asked to select which cartridge you want to reset.

This will not work if the toner cartridge is actually empty.
Keep in mind that if one or more of the color toners are empty, you can still print in black and white by switching the drivers to mono.

Thanks,

Pat

My yellow toner is out and the printer will not print in just black

Hello,

The MFC-9440CN should be able to work even if one or more of the color cartridges are empty.

here's what you can do to print in black only.

1. Unplug the power to the MFC-9440CN
2. Clear the print queue on your computer so that there are no jobs waiting.
3. Right click on the MFC-9440CN printer icon and select "printing preferences"
4. Select "mono" as the color mode.
5. Turn the power back on for the printer.

Now when you print it will be in black only and it should work even if all 3 colored toner's are empty.

Thanks,

Pat

Black dots on printed page from Brother 9440 color laser printer

The problem lies with the black toner cartridge. This is a common problem in these machines due to poor design by Brother. Best solution is to replace the offending color toner cartridge.

Printer is not printing clear and nice pictures

Dear Cubohr,

You need to check the other colour toners, if the other toners are running low, than you will find that the black tone becomes more prominant in your prints. Alternately, there may be an environmental condition with your unit. If it is in direct sunlight, then it is possable that you are getting light interference on all your prints. There are also a number of other reasons.

Check your toners first, check if there is light interference, if both are ok, your unit may still be under brother warranty and you may need to get it to a brother service centre.
