20-12-12 Unit was showing -20C Freezer and +3 Fridge but actually not cooling. When switched off,then back on, then showing +6 Freezer and +14 Fridge. Xmas shopping spoilt. 04-01-13 Samsung replace PCB and Inverter circuit boards,plus cable and connection unit to compressor (except for the Relay Protector item part number 4TM 319SFBYY-82 IFM8K written on existiong unit or possibly ends with BK190 as per buyspares.co.uk??) Compressor still not starting. Claim to be unrepairable??? Internal wiring fault??
Unit is 3 years old, immaculate as new condition in appearance.
When the unit is swithed on the compressor seems to trip a relay on the PCB therefore not allowing to start. Multi meter shows 240V power to compressor terminal connector at all 3 cables?? Compressor not to gound after multimeter test.
The Relay Protector which is attached to the conection unit on the side of compressor possibly faulty? It rattles, multimeter shows closed circuit, has 2 wires attached,brown cable live 240 V. This unit does not connect to the common terminal of compressor at present, so not sure if this relay is complete or missing a bridge to the common terminal of the compressor? Anyone have any ideas? A wiring diagram would be very helpful if anyone has. Should I bridge the 2 wires from the relay to see if starts? Could the compressor be jammed, tripping the relay before starting? how can you check?
Samsung only offer a partial refund towards the cost of replacent so I really need to fix this as it's now been almost 3 weeks without a fridge freezer, family of 5.
Am hoping to get a replacment Relay Protector via the Samsung Technician to try.
Anyone give any advice on above please

check that the compressor is working by feeling for motor vibrations at the compressor, hot compressor unit or hot fins or back wall of the fridge
if there is not heat then the compressor is not working
call a technician as it could be a start/run capacitor failed or compressor seized
get a quote as some compressor replacements cost as much as a new fridge
check that the utility power is getting to the fridge/freezer
OF OF means the fridge is in Demo mode and the compressor is turned off; this mode is used in the store so the unit can be displayed with actually cooling. Press FREEZER and POWER FREEZE simultaneously until the OF OF message disappears to put the unit back into normal home operation.
without checking equipment you can only assume things that may go wrong...1st..try fully defrosting complete unit,clean all vent/drain holes then switch back on and let unit do its thing for 24 hours.then check temperatures are minus 18-20c for freezer and plus 2-5c for fridge (approx)unless you have electrical meters to check, this is just about all you can do..

it is the plug on the actual compressor, this is very easy to replace, if you replace it and it does exactly the same thing its your internal relay and your compressor is done....
1.If this is only a fridge the one knob will be for the min and the other for the max. max. : As soon as you switch the fridge on it will cool down the fridge to max cool down temp. example -2deg. min. : As soon as the fridge reaches the max cool down temp and it had switch the compressor off, the fridge will start to warm up slowly, by the time it reaches the min allowed warming up temp, it will switch the compressor back on and do the cycle all over again. 2. If it is a fridge/freezer setup, the one knob will be for the fidge and the other for the freezer. If the temp in the freezer is fine a fan is activated and blows all the cool air to the fridge and controls the temp. by activating the fan.
Side by side cooling units usually have 2 compressors, one for the freezer and one for the refrigerator. The refrigerator compressor may be bad, or not pulling enough power, or there may have been a leak in the tubing that the compressor uses to cool the unit with. To diagnose the problem, be aware of the noises the unit makes, and check to make sure it is a 2 compressor unit. If you only hear one compressor running then your compressor is bad, if you hear one running too often, then your tubing is bad, if the back of the refrigerator side is warm but the inside is not cooling down, then the compressor is not drawing enough power. Keep in mind that the radiant heat from the operational (presumably) freezer side may cause the refrigerator side to appear warm. (usually there is a type of wire backing with tubes running along it, these tubes should be mildly warm.)
Hi steven, Maybe this could help? Has anyone moved the settings on the fridge? Your fridge is actuallty controled by the freezer with a fan and flap in the fridge compartment. These sometimes ice up and do not let the cold air into the fridge if this is the case then i would switch it of and defrost it ( Yes it is supposed to frost free ) But they do fail. Check to see if it has two compressors on it? see if the fridge one is work and hot as it could be independant from the freezer depending on the spec!

Try these solutions in these order:
1. Switch off the fridge and leave the door open overnight. Switch it back on in the morning.
Explanation: The sensor inside the fridge gets frozen and cannot control the temperature properly.
2. Switch off the fridge. Unplug it. At the back of the fridge (behind the unit, not inside) there is a large grid. Clean it with a hoover thoroughly. Open the fridge. Dry the back of the fridge if wet (inside the fridge). If frosted wait for it to defrost and then dry it. Plug in the fridge. Switch the fridge back on. This one worked for me.
Explanation: The dust in the grid deprives the fridge from cooling down and the unit can't control the temperature in the fridge section.
3. Switch off the fridge. -Unplug it. Empty it. Turn it upside down. Plug it in. Switch it on for 24 hours. Switch it off. Unplug, return to normal and switch on.
Explanation: This has to do with the pressure of the gas inside the compressor. I have not tried it but this advice as given to me by a qualified electrician when I commented the (in)famous F2 problem in Liebherr fridge/freezers.
