If its four year old , maybe the anti virus protection you already had on it , would have expired.

You can download or run free antivirus scans from the following websites

http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

http://free.avg.com/

Thanks

Running just a Virus scan only nowadays is not enough to protedt your PC/Laptop when you use the PC/Laptop to go online.

Do a routine maintenance on your PC/Laptop
1. You must also install Malware/antiSpyware programs too.
2. Clean up your PC/Laptop with the CCleaner to clean the 'craps' on your PC/Laptop.
3. Use a Registry Cleaner too.
4. Reset your IE8 back to default.

Most of the system utilities that are free on the web are sufficient to do a proper rountine maintenance on your PC/Laptop.

Hope it heps.

As for your old faithful Compaq, best is you can do a regular maintenance.

1. Use the CCleaner to clean up the craps.
2. Malware/Spyware, Virus scan and remove any threats!
3. Uninstall any programs you longer use or remove any old data you don't need to increase your HDD capacity.
4. Defrag your HDD. (You can use the Defraggler)
5. Do a "CHKDSK /f/r" for the Dos prompt for you HDD. (ie. Check the intergrity of your HDD)

Hope it helps.

My computer is infected with virus

Hi,

The best way to remove virus from your computer is :-

Step 1. Download free version of Malewarebytes from http://www.itechguru.in/Download%20Links/Download%20Links.htm

Step 2 . Install it and update it from update tag >> check for updates.

Step 3. After that go to tag scanner and perform full scan.

Step 4. When scan complete click on show result and then click on remove selected.

Step 5. After removal it will ask you to restart your computer. Restart once.

And enjoy Virus/Spyware free environment.

1. launch internet explorer or Mozilla Firefox. 2. install malwarebytes on the computer and scan the computer using it. http://www.malwarebytes.org/ download the free version. 3. Now, once the scan it complete, you will see an option, show result, click on "show result" and then click on "Remove selected". Now, restart the computer, it would be fixed.

My computer has a virus i want to remove the virus

I fyou are able to use your computer (I assume so, seeing as how you posted on here)

first go to http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

Do the tiny installer, and run a full system scan, it will take a long time.

This should get you cleaned up enough to enable you to get a real-time scanner installed. I recommend AVAST, AVG in my 15 years of experience is sub-par. It has been unable to remove viruses on customer computers on many occasions.

Avast Home Edition is FREE and requires you register with your email address every 14 months at NO COST.

download it from here:

http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

after it installs it will ask you to "Do a system scan at boot up?" click YES and it will do it's thing after it reboots. This will also take a very long time, but after this you should be virus free.
