We have a ge oven jcb 968 that only will heat up to 300 then shuts itself off .Both top and bottom elements apear to be working. on broil the top element got red hot then it shut itself off .No error codes appear at all. Since new ,15 months it seems to have slowly lost tempature and now it has begun to shut itself off.

Hi, If your electric oven is not heating then you probably have a bad heating element in your oven. This is not that hard to fix yourself... Check out this tip that I wrote about the Oven not heating problem..
This sounds like a loose connection (solder joint) on the main control board. I had one that had a similar problem. checked the price of a control board $350. I took the control panel off, took the board apart and found a loose connection on one of the relays. resoldered the bad connection. oven works fine now.
seatie, as long as you have the breaker off to the oven you should be o.k. Sounds like something shorted to the oven cabinet. It could be the terminal connection on the heating element itself. The main board could of shorted out. Without being there it's hard to tell, but you will be fine until GE arrives as long as the breaker to the oven is off. Catriver.
