Question about Dyson DC17 Animal Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum

Dyson dc17 brush not spinning when on

Brushbar is free spinning when off, but does not engage to pick up dirt when vacuum is on. Husband says there is an elastic band missing from the bushbar assembly? I don't see an elastic band or a belt listed as a part in my manual or at Cleaned whole vacuum suction is working, but bar does not spin to pick up dirt.

Is not the on/off switch for the brushbar. Vacuum is picking up, but not with the ease or intricate volumes I've come to expect from my Animal.

My dyson cyclone assembly will not spin when it...

I have 2 dyson dc07. The cyclone assembly will not spin when dirt is picked up, but when I change them out the vacuum is fine, so I know it is the cyclone assembly. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Dyson DC07 Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum.

It sounds to me that you may have a clog but when you said you changed them out the vacuum is fine, so a couple of things, if the vacuum is still under a factory warranty of 1 or 2 years the cyclone assm still would be under a factory warranty. If it is over the 1 or 2 years then you would have to replace the cyclone assm but you may want to check with the Dyson Factory Tech Support / customer Service line as per the problem, and they can ship you the part from the factory or to check with your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area and they may have one in stock or they can order one for you. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

SOURCE: The spinning brush isn't moving

Belt may be off the motor spindle, with the vacuum off try turning the brush by hand, does it turn freely or can you feel the resistance of the motor?

My dyson animal the roller brush not spinning around

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC17. Your cleaner is equipped with a safety device which shuts off the brushbar if it gets tangled with a rug fringe, shoelace etc. After making sure the brushbar is free of threads, hair or other obstructions, you'll be able to reset the cleaner and get the brushbar running again. The easiest way to do this is to follow the steps shown in our guide:

Please note, the brushbar will never rotate when the cleaner is standing in the upright position, or if you've turned it off using the silver brush control switch located next to the red on/off switch.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve your issue without further assistance. However, if you've tried this and are still concerned, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly. One of our experts will be happy to run through some troubleshooting over the phone with you recommend the best course of action. You can call us free on 1866MYDYSON - or if you email your details to, someone will be in contact as soon as possible.

Kind regards,

High pitched sound when beater bar is engaged

Switch the machine off at the wall. Take plug out the socket.

Take a 2 pence peice and unscrew the 3 plastic screw on the bottom. In here you will probably find a build up of dirt etc. This dirt also gets into the fine tuning of the brushbar.

Take some WD40 and spray this on the moving partsm aking sure you het the edges, nooks and crannies.

Hi, We have a brand new Dyson DC33 and the brushbar clutch slips too often when vacuuming any carpet in our house. Bare floors are fine, There are no obstructions with the brushbar, and when I try to...

Look to see if it has a switch on it that says floor /carpet. as it will raise the head enough for more clearance under it.Don't allow it to keep slipping, it will burn up the rubber band that drives the brush.
