Question about Panasonic PT-47WX42 47" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Bad Component Good day all: I've had my 47" TV for about four years and just recently the tv would power up for a few seconds then shut off. The power indicator light on the front panel would then blink three times. After leaving the tv unplugged for two days I got up the nerve to pop the back off and take a peak inside. Nothing really stood out as the culprit so I plugged the set back in and had my wife hit the power button, what I noticed was a capacitor glowing like a christmas tree light then the set shut off. This capacitor is the first of many in a row next to the convergence amplifier, it's grey in color with one band and is in the shape of a resistor. Most notable was the incredible amount of dust that collected on the pc board, I vacuumed it all out and labeled the wire harnesses and removed the whole chasis from the set. My question to the tech guys//// has anyone heard of this before? Could it just be a simple cap that burned out and I could bring the chasis to a repair shop and get a new one? Or is there a deeper more sinister reason why just this cap would let go? Any help would be appreciated, hopefully this is low cost fix and maybe help others with a similar problem. Cheers: Lee

Hello Lee. I have seen that many, many times. There are 2 large black convergence IC's, STK392-110 and one of them has shorted out. The extra current it is drawing is cooking the resistor next to it and the computer senses the extra current and shuts the set down. The part you see glowing is a 2.2 ohm 1 watt (or 2 watt)resistor, the same as the 5 other resistors next to it colored red, red, gold. You need to replace the convergence IC that the burning resistor is connected to and replace that resistor, and your set will then work normally again. If you have no experience replacing convergence IC's then have a qualified tech handle it for you.

there is still a component problem in the t.v. send it back to the tech. if the convergence chips have failed again, the power supply circuit should be checked.

The green CRT may be intermittently bad or the focus screen block. Certain sony's are common to have bad CRT's. When the screen goes green does the set shut off?

Vizio SV470XVT1A makes screeching sound

Hello,

This sounds as if it could be a ballast problem, or a switching power supply transformer problem. Both of these can produce this sound. I would suggest that you have a qualified TV technician repair this set due to the dangerous voltages and currents that could be present. In my experience with these TV I would have the technician pay special attention to the power supply board and the backlight/inverter section which includes the ballast used to fire the backlight.

I hope this helps,

Thank you,

Vizio 47" lcd no picture no sound has power

this could be one of two problem. first, check if you have back light. If you do then the problem is with the M/B. Second, if you don't have back light then the inverter is bad and needs to be replace.
