Sounds like a bad power transformer. Would need to go in for repairs.

both transformers tested ok ,was hoping fr specific code ie # of flashes to narrow down which portion of amp. board was bad before tear down. thank you though Steve.:)

  • Steve K Jan 10, 2013

Does the display ever light up? Or is just the power button flashing?

  • densphone71
    densphone71 Jan 10, 2013

Its stuck in protect mode,so it wont light up until service is performed.Did the micro processor reset and get a slower steady flash .talked to electronic express tech.(autherized for denon)suggested that when flashing its the micro p. doing diagnostic and display will remain of until repair on amp. board is done. But would not tell me codes so I guess Ill trouble shoot the board 1 channel at a time.

  • Steve K Jan 10, 2013

There are no flash codes for denon (I am an authorized servicer as well). If the display does not light up when you do the reset, it is something other than the amp. When doing the reset, all segments of the display should light up. If they don't, it still sounds like a open main power transformer.

Thats good to here Steve.Much easier repair do you think maybe the small trans.?

  • Steve K Jan 10, 2013

Large main power transformer is where I would look. Disconnect the two wire input cable going to it and check continuity for the two wires. they should be a short - if not, the transformer is bad.

you hit it on the head Steve..thx..looks to be a thermal fuse on primary side.Could probably eliminate and jumper since there's a slow blow on board next to power in right?

  • Steve K Jan 11, 2013

Nope, thermal fuse is buried inside the transformer core. No way to get around it without replacing transformer

SOURCE: Denon AVR 1804 Switch on and

try to reset it

To re-set the 2802, just do as follows:

1. Switch off at unit's main power switch.
2. Hold A & B buttons and turn power back on.
3. Check entire display is flashing at approx. 1 second intervals, release the 2 buttons, microprocessor is now initialized.

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: denon avr 885 it automaticallyshuts off when i try to power it up

Its possible that the Receiver is going into protection mode and possible some speaker cable might have touched the body or with each other.
Remove all inputs and outputs and then restart the receiver. If it starts then you are lucky. Connect all cable and wiring properly and ensure that they do not touch each other. You might have to reset the microprocessor also.

If the problem persist then let me know to further the trobleshooting.

Please do rate this solution and thanks for using FixYa.

No power output or display.green standby light flashes.

Sounds like either a blown mainpower fuse or the thermal fuse for the power transformer. If the protect circuit was kicking in, the display would light up, but then turn off with a red blinking light. the green light with no display means the transformer is not getting power.

Check to make sure that when you are on that input that HDMI shows up in the front display. If it does not, then you need to turnit on. If it still does not, you could have a problem with your HDMI board on your receiver not recognising the signal.
