SOURCE: Tray2 Paper emty message after swapping out tray2 pickup roller

Your problem is more than likely that the sensor lever is not properly positioned. You may also have dislodged the shaft from the drive gears (gears on right out side of carriage). Both are easy to do.

Here's a couple pictures of the exact positioning of the paper sensor positioning. It should freely flip up and fall back down with gravity. Remove the tray and check the flag that hangs down.

Just in case you have dislodged the shaft from the geartrain, here's a free copy of the HP Service manual for the printer that will walk you through disassembling the right side for re-mounting the shaft and holder clip for the shaft.

Hope that helps you. :)

If this resolves the issue, hit me with a Fixya! If not ask me further and I'll try and help you some more.

SOURCE: replace the tray 2 pickup roller assembly

The tray two pickup roller is a roller in the front of the tray. Remove tray 2 and place it on a level work surface. Locate and open the cover that is
next to the roller in tray 2.
Pinch the blue latch that is on the left side of the roller. Slide the roller off of the shaft.
Then you can slide the new roller back in.
CAUTION When you install this roller, make sure that it locks into place. Verify that the
roller is correctly oriented, and that the round, black spacer next to the roller is correctly
positioned against the locking pin on the shaft.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Printer out of paper message

I know this probabley does not help you too much. But did you use a roller cleaning solution? If you have i would say to have the rollers replaces. I know its a bad solution. but just trying to help out what little i can thanks (i have used rubbing alcohol before and it helped me) (make sure to dilute it with water 50/50) so 50 percent water and 50 percent alcohol. just make sure to read up on your rollers (google) and make sure the alcohol will not damage the roller. (also if you have warranty just send it off) assuming you have warranty left.
thanks again
sorry if this doesn't help you out :)

Printer does not attempt to pick up paper but gives out of paper message and or flashing paper sign on panel

steps:
(a) driving a pickup roller, picking up printing paper stacked in a paper cassette, and then, feeding the picked up printing paper to an image forming unit
(b) after picking up the printing paper in step (a), checking to determine whether or not the printing paper has been fed to the image forming unit(c) when it has been determined in step (b) that the printing paper has not been fed and a paper feed error has been generated, again driving the pickup roller, so as to attempt to pick up the printing paper stacked in the paper cassette again.

My Officejet pro has a paper jam and I can't release it. Thanks

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Inspect the location or tray the printed paper ejects to. If the stuck paper is visible manually remove it.*
  3. Remove all paper trays and any paper that may be stuck between the tray and the printer. If the stuck paper is visible manually remove it.*
  4. Open the printer door that allows you access to the printer ink cartridges or toner and look for any stuck paper. If the stuck paper is visible manually remove it.*
  5. Turn the printer back on. If you continue to receive a printer jam error try repeating the above steps again. If issue still persist and you see no paper that is stuck in the printer it's likely your printer is experiencing another hardware issue and i suggest contacting the printer manufacturer for additional assistance and/or repair.

OUT OF PAPER

The printer will attempt to pull in a sheet of paper out of the tray. If none is pulled, this is noted because a microswitch is not closed by the paper sheet as it goes by. This is the cause of the message. Check to be sure that the rubber roller that grips the paper initially is clean. I'll leave further comments to Benimur our local printer expert.
