SOURCE: mcculloch 110 - loose chain

Look at the saw body from the nose of the bar, Just to the left of the bar a slotted screw head should be visible (on clutch cover). That is your tension adjustment.

Chain adjustment

  1. Make sure the chain brake is off (gloves will protest your fingers).
  2. If necessary, loosen the nut that is clamping the guide bar in place (or whatever your saw uses to hold the side plate and bar on with). We don't need these really loose - just finger tight will do.
  3. Ease the tension until the chain is obviously loose.
  4. Using one hand, hold the nose of the bar up.
  5. Now, while holding the nose up, adjust the tension so that the chain just touches the underside of the bar then just a little more.
  6. Continue holding the nose of the bar up & tighten up the clutch cover nut.

SOURCE: mcculloch electramac ems300s chain is loose how to tighten

A link to an OM for a similar model follows:
http://weborder.husqvarna.com/order_static/doc/MOUS/MOUS2008/MOUS2008-MCC1514-6096210915-966993001.pdf
Tension adjustment is on page 10. All chains are adjusted similarly, this one is reasonably complete, the only addition I suggest is to elevate the nose of the bar when adjusting and tightening. Experience tells me adjustments require many fewer tweaks when the nose is elevated.

How can I install chain?

Loosen the bolt that holds the chain assembly in place so you can remove the old chain and replace with new one. Pull out the assembly to tighten new chain and then tighten the bolt.

Replace mcCulloch chainsaw chain tension screw

It will either be in between the two nuts that secure the guide bar OR alongside the engine block right up next to the guide bar and facing forward. You may have to clean the area of debris and impacted sawdust to find it. Clockwise tightens the chain and counterclockwise loosens it. Elevate the tip of the guide bar with the securing nuts LOOSE a bit while making the adjustment then tighten securely AFTER correct tension is attained.

I have an older McCulloch chain saw- Pro Mac 610. When using the saw the chain will get very tight. If I adjust the chain to the proper tension, make a couple of cuts the chain loosens and must be...

The main reason for a chain to tighten is because it is not getting enough oil to the bar, or too thin an oil is being used, you should see a good spray of oil off the end of the bar when held against a tree stump, if not try adjusting the flow if it has an adjuster.

Does not idle

A link to a MCC 1635 OM follows:
http://ipl.ordertree.com/ipl/845/MCC1435A(311023).pdf
From page 11
IMPORTANT IDLING INFORMATION
In some cases due to operating conditions (altitude, temperature
etc.) your chain saw may need a slight adjustment
to the idle speed.
After warm up - See the User's Manual section 5-2, step 7
- If unit does not Idle after restarting 2 times, follow these
steps to adjust idle.
1. Idle adjustment access (G). (Figure 5-2H)
2. Using a Phillips or slotted screwdriver - turn screw 1/4
to 1/2 turn clockwise (to the right). Unit should then
idle properly. (Figure 5-2H)
NOTE: If chain turns while idling - turn screw back to the
left until chain stops and unit continues to idle.

Anything beyond this the OM recommends to a authorized dealer. Not bad advice, I suggest a local Stihl dealer.

Chain came off a 14 mcculloch how to put back on

Hi, you need to remove the plastic guard on the side, held in place by a nut and a screw. Replace the chain around wheel and chain guard, loosen tightening screw, replace plastic conver, and tighten tightening screw. Make sure you have the chain the right way round, there is usually a small diagram showing this. Hope this helps

I would like to know what type and grade of crankcase oil is used on a MS-1635 McCulloch 16' saw

There is no oil in the crankcase of a 2-cycle chainsaw engine, it is mixed into the fuel.
McCulloch recommends 40:1 (1 Gallon of premium fuel/3.2 ounces of quality 2-cycle oil).
It will operate better on 50:1 (1 Gallon of premium fuel/2.6 ounces of quality 2-cycle oil) once properly adjusted.
If you are asking about chain lubrication, purchase whatever "Bar and Chain Oil" is least expensive at your local hardware or home center.
