SOURCE: Wont coil back into its housing, so trimmer wont start. Has compression though

Hi, this a cut&paste from elswhere but it applies to your problem:
how to repair a recoil spring: whats missing is this, you should always wgear eye protection when dealing with springs of any kind.
remember safty first. :)

Remove the recoil shroud and take a look at the assembly.
You might have a broken spring or just a rope that has slipped out of the reel.
The spring usually breaks at one of the end tabs. If so, you will need to get a replacement spring and carefully wind that in, before re-assembling the rope reel. You might wish to replace the rope also, if it shows signs
of wear.

You will need to remove the entire cooling shroud. There should be 4 bolts on the sides. You might need to remove the fuel tank also. Pre-wind the recoil reel by hand [about 6 turns, to set the spring tension] and clamp it with Vise-Grip pliers. Remove the old rope. Thread
the new rope through the shroud housing eyelet and to the reel hub. Let the reel re-wind itself until it is full. If there is not enough spring tension you can wind it a couple of turns more by slipping the rope around
between the reel and shroud. Re-clamp the reel. Cut the rope to length and thread it though the handle. At all knots, burn and melt the rope with a
lighter to prevent untying. Re-assemble.

How do I get the cover off a Husqvarna 128LD string trimmer so I can replace the pull cord?

To remove the recoil assembly, remove the bolts numbered 24 and 25. The housing will then be able to be removed. Then remove bolt number 31 to remove the recoil and pulley (and spring)

How do i rewind back, the start pulling cord of my gas trimmer,i have tried diferent ways, but after asembly and pull first time,it got loose, can you helpme,please,thankyou...............ED

Remove the tube that holds the flex-drive shaft from the front of the motor cover. Remove the throttle cable from the carburetor. Mark and unplug any wires for the on/off switch if possible. Now if you have pulled the driveshaft tube out of the way, the clutch drum is up next. Inside it, screwed into the very end of the engine's crankshaft is a Torx #25 screw. Before you loosen it, ou will have to lock up the engine. Remove the spark plug. Pull on the starter until the piston is down, then insert a length of clean, soft rope into the engine. The engine will come up and compress the rope, thus locking it in place to allow clutch drum and clutch removal. Loosen the T-25 screw inside the drum.. It probably won't come completely out...it is made this way. Next, remove the clutch. It is screwed onto a small threaded section of the crankshaft Removal is counterclockwise.. It will be pretty tight. To help, apply peneterating oil. Whack the ears of the clutch near the center with a dull flat-blade chisel and hammer unless there are bolts. then use wrench. It will turn counterclockwise for removal and there will probably be a removal direction arrow on it's face. After getting that off, remove the Torx screws holding the cover to the engine. The starter unit should be mounted inside as it mates with the top of the flywheel to start the motor. Remember to preload tension (5-7 turns) on the starter unit. Make sure the handle is installed. Jam the unit with a screwdriver or something so you can insert and tie off the new rope. Then remove jam device and let recoil pull your new rope into place. Reassemble and you are done. Disassembly requires Torx head drivers ranging from T-15 to T-25 Below are more details of this operation involving the starter recoil unit., OK...with the starter/recoil unit OFF the machine, with no rope in it, and no tension on it.....grasp the little nylon hub and turn it (clockwise is I recall) round and round 6-7 times until you feel the recoil spring get nice and tight...DO NOT LET GO OF IT!...hold it in place and then JAM the starter/recoil unit in place (still tight) inside it's housing by either clamping it with a tool like vise grips or by sticking a screwdriver thru it and thru the vents in the cover. If you have ANOTHER person to help you...one of you hold it in place....and make sure it is lined up to where you can NOW insert the new lenth of pull rope. Always use new rope....Feed the end thru the hole in the recoil unit and tie it off, by wrapping it around itself outside the nylon hub and then screw the little self-tapping set screw back in holding the rope down. OK...then feed the opposite end into the hole in the front engine cover and attatch the T pull handle....Now mind you, you are still jammming or holding the recoil in place against the spring!...Now, unclamp it or unjam it and slowly let the recoil pull the NEW rope you just installed back onto the pulley. Make sure it is fastened well on top of the pulley around the nylon hub and also fastened well onto the T pull handle. That is it. Then reconnect your wires, put your throttle cable back thru the engine cover and reinstall the Torx screws in the cover...and you are done

I have having problem with my Hysqvaran 125L with the pull cord. When i pulls cord, it not catching the trans and it sound like the spring is not catching?

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.

It sounds like the starter cup has failed / broken. See this link: (Page 3 item 14.)
http://weborder.husqvarna.com/order_static/doc/HIPL/HIPL2008/HIPL2008_5450143-15.pdf

However... the pawls on the starter pulley (item 28 above) may have broken.

There is a whole kit for repairing the starter recoil: PN 545180844
That can be found here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/HUSQVARNA-RECOIL-STARTER-KIT-124L-125L-128L-545180844-/150485511147

Your need to remove the starter recoil assy and check for damage. It will be obvious. Just remove the mounting screws and lift it off. It is not difficult. Use the first link page 3 to identify the parts you may need once you do the visual inspection with the recoil removed.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

After pulling the starter coil, it will not be pulled back into the machine or better said, it will not coil for another attempt at starting.

Sounds as either the recoil spring located under the the recoil housing has either broken or the plastic housing that holds the spring end has broken. you will need to remove the recoil housing to determine the problem. To remove:
1. Remove the drive tube by removing the clamp around the front of the housing and gently pull the drive tube from the engine.
2. Remove the torx or slotted screws holding the recoil assembly on
3. Remove the star washer with a flat screwdriver and gently lift the recoil from the housing.
The spring will be directly. You should be able to see the problem at that point.

Pulley cord wont go down unable to start on gas trimmer

Your cord wont recoil?

You should remove the recoil cover and see if you can rewind the rope manually.

It isnt too hard and will let you know immediately if you need to replace the recoil.

Just the recoil unit by loosening the three or four bolts and lift it off the trimmer. Turn it over and look at the recoil spool. There should be a notch in it. This is were you catch a bit of the starter rope and start turning it in the direction of normal rotation. Normal rotation will put tension on the recoil spring.
When you put 4-6 turns into it just let it recoil and see if it pulls all the rope back in. That's it. If the cord didnt recoil something inside the recoil has broken and you need to get the unit serviced or replaced. Most of the time the cost of repairing something like this is prohibitive. Its a better idea to just replace the whole unit.

Good luck and be careful!

Husqvarna 125r wont start. has spark, compression, air filter and exhust checked. could it be the timing? if so how do you adjust?

Pull spark plug out. Pull cover from recoil starter. Pull recoil starter. Inspect flywheel mag's for cleanliness. Then turn engine over untill piston is topped out. Your manets and pick up should be lined up to eachother at this point. If they are not, pull nut and or bolts from flywheel and remove to check for damaged key-way or woodruff key that aligns flywheel to crank. That is the only timing.

I just replaced the recoil \\starter rope on my blower

Are you sure you have the right length rope??? If you are sure the rope length is correct you may have wound the recoil spring too tight causing it to run out of travel. You want the recoil spring just tight enough to pull the rope all the way in.
