Question about Dell E153FP 15" LCD Monitor

1 Answer

E153fp high pitched sound when on

This monitor has troubles turning on (especially when cold) the green light will turn on for a fraction of a second, then the unit will turn off, wait about 10 seconds and try again. This will happen over and over again, until eventually (I guess when it is warm enough) it will display images and not reboot. However when it is on it produces like a high pitched scratching noise coming from the top of the rear of the monitor. This area also gets very warm. Do you think it is the bulb on the top of the monitor, or is it another issue?

Sounds like the LCD or the inverter are failing. Generally cheaper to replace than to fix

View sonic computer screen was dropped and now when you turn it on the picture comes on and then it emits a high pitched sound and turns off. any suggestions?

Sounds like you may have broke at least one of the lamps . The high pitch sound you are hearing is the high voltage that goes to it .

You have shorted out transistors in the backlight inverter circuits.
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, blown fuses, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed DELL monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

The screen on my computer (dell E153FP 15" lcd) keeps going black everytime I turn it on. I can still see a very dark picture and the green light is still on but I can't see much. Usually I just turn it...

Monitor Goes black, or flickers on and off

The high pitch sound is coming from the inverter. It is faulty and needs to be repaired or replaced. The inverter supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp, this lamp gives the backlight to the LCD so you can see the LCD images.

That once happened to my LCD screen. I had to send it to the supplier for a fix. If it's still under warrenty, try sending it back for a replacement.

I suspect that you either have a loose connection or more likely bad solder on one of your boards. Check out this link for videos on opening the unit
http://www.lcdrepair.us/Installation.html
Iwould check all conections for a tight fit and closely examine the solder on the boards. You can use a pencil or something non conducting to push on individual parts after opening the back to isolate the problem..

Screaming acer!

sometimes if the inverter board (the part that drives the backlight) has a cold solder joint on it, it can actually generate a high pitched resonating sound (aka a screaming squeal sound)

if it's under warranty, have the manufacturer correct the problem.

if not under warranty, retouch the solder points on the inverter board, or have a repair tech fix it for you.
