Question about Washing Machines

10 Answers

Toshiba washing machine, 8.5kg, model AW-9700S with Fuzzy control. Japanese make bought in malaysia. Its just 2 years old. Every time the machine spins for 9 minutes and stops. Error message E-2 flashes. Water is not draining, no spinning or washing. Can you identify the problem?. Do I need any spares to replace? How much would they cost.

After careful checking its noticed that after 9 minutes spinning, water gets drained (there is no valve blockage). But after that its not running. Actually it should go into the next mode of rinse or spin after taking water. Thats not happening.

Hi margani10

Alright, since I live in the US, this product is not familiar with me but when on spin mode this is what it says to do.

Drain the water from the tub. (Open the lid. After "E2" displays, power off.)

If it doesn't work, let me know but I haven't found anything else so far and so will have to call someone if this doesn't help. Let me know.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

sorry no info at the moment yet on error code E-2. on the drain issue, corrective action involves opening the bottom/kick panel and or any of the cover for that purpose and gain access to the filter, sump/bowl, valve, impeller, pump motor and hose (kinks/blockage). A bit of a messy job but relatively esy assuming all it requires is cleaning assuming no parts need replacing.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

These days, most washing machines are controlled by software in computer-type modules. If a fault occurs, the washing machine will often abort the program and display an error code. This could be in the form of a letter and number (such as F10 or E2) or by flashing neon lights. If your washing machine is aborting the program, and lights are flashing, make a note of which neon(s) are lit up or flashing. This is invaluable information which can be reported to an engineer. For information on other washing machine error codes, see Washing machine displays an error code

It won't drain If your washer won't drain, check these:

It spins, but doesn't pump
It doesn't spin or pump
It pumps, but the water returns
It spins, but doesn't pump If your washer spins but doesn't pump the water out, the drain line is probably clogged. In many washers, a small sock or other piece of clothing can get between the clothes tub and the outer tub that holds the water. If the clothing gets between the tubs, it may then get into the drain hose that's attached to the pump--or even into the pump itself. If it's in the pump, you need to remove the hoses from the pump and pull the item out.

To remove the sock from the outer tub port, open the washer's main access panel and remove the large-diameter rubber hose that connects the pump to the bottom of the outer tub. Then, using needle-nose pliers, try to grab and remove the clothing through the port.

Sometimes you can't remove the stuck clothing from below. Then you have to remove the agitator, top of the outer drum shield, and inner clothes tub. This isn't easy to do--and you may need special tools--so you might be happier getting a qualified appliance repair technician to do the job.

If the drain line isn't plugged, the problem may be with your pump. Even if the pump appears to be turning, the internal impeller may be broken. If so, you need to replace the pump.

It doesn't spin or pump If your washer doesn't spin or pump water out but the motor is running, your washer probably has a frozen pump pulley. If so, you need to replace the pump. To check the pulley, remove the pump from the washer and try to rotate the pulley manually. If it doesn't turn freely--if it's frozen or stiff--replace it.

It pumps, but the water returns If the water that pumps out of the machine goes back into the machine after the spin cycle, your washer may be siphoning the water from a laundry tub that has a slow drain, back into the washer. The usual remedy for this is to improve the draining of the laundry tub. (Is something stuck in the drain?) Also, check for these problems:

  • If the drain hose reaches more than about 4 inches into the laundry tub, cut off the excess.

  • If your drain hose is lower than the washer's cabinet, install an air gap/siphon break assembly.

If it doesn't pump water out or spin, check to see if the motor is running, then proceed as follows:

  • If the motor is running, your washer probably has a frozen pump pulley or a broken pump belt. To check the pulley, remove the pump from the washer and try to rotate the pulley manually. If it doesn't turn freely--if it's frozen or stiff--replace it. If the pump belt is broken or looks quite worn, replace it--but be sure to check the pump pulley before you change the belt.

  • If the motor isn't running, the lid switch may be defective. If so, the washing machine can't spin and may not function at all. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washing machine to get to the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it.

just unplug the unit for sometime then on it again and checkout.also check out if any thing blocking the drum to spin internally.
if its internal fault can cause to near to $50

E2 error code aw-8990st toshiba wash

Toshiba top load washers have standard error codes. Depending on the display (2 or 3 digits depending on the model) it will either show E21 (or E23) or alternate E2 and -1 (or E2 and -3). Here's a list of most Toshiba washers error codes;

E1: Water doesn't drain in time or not at all
E21: Lid open
E23: Lid not locking
E31: Load imbalance
E32: Check E1 and/or E31
E5: No water coming in

You can try resetting to factory default by following the procedure: Power OFF, then pressing and holding the Super Spin Dry button, press power ON and it should beep 3 times.

Hope this helps

We bought electrolux washing machine ewf 85761 in penang malaysia, before we brought on board ship test is done on the store, the washing machine is in good condition..Then we brought the washing machine on...

Just as a wild guess, the control circuit in the washer may not work with 60 Hz shipboard power. The motor probably is not affected. You must be getting awfully tired of hauling that washer back and forth!

Hi.

It depends on your location. To start you find the local Toshiba support number in your machine's owner manual.

In UK you can also contact: Currys partmaster.co.uk

If you are located in Australia/NZ you can also order from: Toshiba Washing Machine spare parts.

In Malaysia and other Asian countries you can contact: Toshiba Malaysia

Hong Kong: Service & Maintenance.

There are more distributors. Details depend on your location.
