Hi and welcome to Fixya,

It would seem that most of possible solutions have been posted. To my knowledge, a new toner cartridge would have a shipping tape and a strip of shipping lock; both of which must be removed prior to installation. Thereafter ensure that the small electronic board is attached firmly to the cartridge. You may also want to inspect the receptacle where the small electronic board of the cartridge slips into. There should be no obstruction, bits of paper or tape. The small electronic board and the matching slot that it fits into would have matching gold pins that contacts each other when installed properly. Clean both. You can start with a can of compressed air but pls use sparingly and try to regulate to a low pressure. On the gold pins you can use a pencil eraser to rub out any tarnishing or light corrosion. If the slot would not allow this, a flattened cotton bud dipped in alcohol would also serve the purpose. Pls allow to air dry.

Should the above be not sufficient, it may be necessary to reinitialize the NVRAM:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Press and hold the SELECT and CANCEL JOB buttons simultaneously.
  • Turn on the printer.
  • When you see the message Permanent storage init displays, release the SELECT and
  • CANCEL JOB buttons.
  • When the NVRAM init is complete, the printer will return to the Ready state.
If still a no go, put the printer into STBY mode and press the engine test print switch which is at the back of the printer. Press once momentarily. Pls post back result(s).

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

That often happpens because toner dust had spread inside the printer, and toner sensor is dirty.

Of course you have to remember that the drum is part of the tonercartridge and after the second refill you will probably need to replaceit. Looking around on ebay itseems a 4 color toner set with chips cost around $94 (black only around$45) if you want to go that route. You can also get a tool that willmelt a 3/4" hole into the toner cartridge for easy refill
making holes in the cartridge's 'waste toner' bin and removing thatexcess toner, then plugging the holes, making another hole to fill the'fresh toner' bin, and finally replacing the 'circuit board chip that is connected to the toner

HP Color LaserJet 2600n Printer - Changing Print Cartridges Changing print cartridges When a print cartridge approaches the end of useful life, the control panel displays a message recommending that order a replacement. The printer can continue to print using the current print cartridge until the control panel displays a message instructing to replace the cartridge. The control panel display also indicates the color that should be replaced (unless a genuine HP cartridge is not currently installed). To change the print cartridge

Now, shutdown the computer. Switch off the printer. Clean the place where the toner is loaded.

This is not covered in any manual so print this out:

On the front of the printer are 2 arrow buttons and a "check" button.
1. press the "check" button (the LCD will read "Main Menu Reports")
2. press the right arrow (the LCD will read "Main Menu System Setup")
3. press the "check" button (the LCD will read "System Setup Language")
4. press the right button twice (the LCD will read "System Setup Print Quality")
5. press the "check" button (the LCD will read "Print Quality calibrate color")
6. press the right arrow 3 times (the LCD will read "Print Quality Replace Supplies")
7. press the "check" button (the LCD will read "Replace Supplies Override Out" or "Replace Supplies Stop at Out")
8. press the right until you see the LCD screen say "override Out"
9. press the "check" button to accept whichever option you want. The default is that the printer will stop when IT detects that the cartridge is empty, not when the cartridge is actually empty. If you accept the "Override Out" option, the printer will NOT shut down when IT thinks the toner is out, and you can decide for yourself by looking at the printed page when the toner has run out.

Hope it works for you

Do you need to tell the printer it has a new toner cart. Check your printer control panel. There is a setting 'new toner yes/no' something like that. I am not in the office right now, so I can't tell you exactly.

  • Jyackle5

    Try this.

Cold-reset, which power-cycles the engine with a special button press, is not supported for this printer. Instead, use the feature "Restore defaults" located in the Service menu to reset default settings.
    Restoring the factory-set defaults
Restoring the factory-set defaults returns all of the settings to the factory defaults; however, it will not affect the embedded network solution settings.
    Restore the factory-set defaults

    1. Use the (LEFT ARROW) or the (RIGHT ARROW) button to select Service, and then press (SELECT).

    2. Use the (LEFT ARROW) or the (RIGHT ARROW) button to select Restore defaults, and then press (SELECT).

    The device automatically restarts.

Try to see if it still is the bongo pumps acting up (the white pads underneath the cartridges) would be to open the front cartridge cover and the printhead cover, remove all the ink cartridges and then power up the printer. Take note of the bongo pumps and if they move up and down properly. If not, that may be the cause of an out of ink message

Good luck...

    1. Open the front cover of printer and remove the toner cartridge exhibiting error.

    2. Inspect the print cartridge to ensure the e-label reader is attached to print cartridge and is not damaged.

    3. Inspect the inside of printer to verify the e-label does not have any product packing tape still attached.

    4. Inspect the e-label reader to ensure
the gold contact points are not damaged or bent. Also inspect the black
plastic on e-label reader to ensure it is not bent or broken.

    5. Reinstall the print cartridge.

    6. Power cycle the device.

If not, take a Q-tip with a little alcohol and clean the area inside the printer where the printer head makes contact.

Hi faddykay

Make sure you remove any labels over the metal contacts, clean the contacts on the cartridge and the printer and if that doesn't help, then unplug the printer and uninstall it and then reinstall it and plug it back in and it should work. Let me know if that still doesn't work, it should but might not and then we have to do something else

Also have you tried the cartridge out override feature to see if it will worth then.
    Configuration

Cartridge Out Override can only be enabled from the printer's control panel menu.

    1. From the main menu, press (RIGHT ARROW) to System setup and press Check Mark button (SELECT).

    2. Press (RIGHT ARROW) to Print quality and press the Check Mark button (SELECT).

    3. Press (RIGHT ARROW) to Replace supplies and press Check Mark button (SELECT).

    4. Press (RIGHT ARROW) to Override out and press Check Mark button (SELECT).

    5. Press (Check Mark button SELECT).

If Stop at out is selected, the printer will stop printing when a
cartridge reaches the recommended replacement point. If Override out is
selected, the printer will continue printing when a cartridge reaches
the recommended replacement point. The factory default setting is Stop
    at out.
if it works then most likely it you just need to reset the counter.
    Thanks,
    lee

When i print toner status black color is faded as well as yellow and cyan, magenta showing white color, can you please give the best solution for this. by the way i am using hp 2600n. thank you very much.

First, make sure that the toner cartridges have enough toner. The toners may be exhausted. In case the toners are ok, the printer requires servicing/ cleaning of lenses and mirrors inside the printer.
Please refer here to my earlier solution to this problem, which was very helpful for the users of Color LaserJet 2600n Printer.

There is an override sequence and it works well. Press the select button (checkmark) to indicate Main menu. Press right-arrow (RA) to select System Setup. Press Select , then RA to Print Quality, Hit select. RA to Replace supplies and hit Select. Now, RA to Override Out and Select. Confirm with Select again. Your 2600n will now run even with an empty toner cartridge.

Out of toner........ but not really.....

Print a Supplies Status page to see the actual pages printed...

To print the Supplies Status page from the printer, on the printer control panel, select
Reports Menu, Supplies Status, and then Print Supplies Status page.

If the page count from the Supplies Status page indicates that the toner should not be in need of replacement then you have a bad cartridge. Actually, the cartridge is probably fine but the chip on the cartridge has got a problem. Return the cartridge to O.D. and get another one. Unfortunately, chips that don't work properly in not all that unusual so HP has a pretty easy return policy.

Hope this helps.
