They tray is not removable and there is not a big enough opening to get the vacuum or any other tool into it.

Tomeboy,

You are asking a lot for a R553 to heat 700 sq ft. with bedrooms that have doors. These heaters are great but they do have some limitations. If you were building new you could put in quiet room to room fans up high on the wall to move the air into other spaces. Since everything is already built you are really stuck. If you had to you could frame in the fans, do all the electrical, sheet rock and paint or just put a smaller Rinnai in the bedroom. 6 of one, half a dozen of the other.Sorry

SOURCE: No hot water - Rinnai tankless hot water heater

sounds like the water line is frozen before it gets to heater. You can take a blow dryer and try to thaw the line. You should be able to hook up a hose on the hot side of water heater. turn valve off so it wont flow into house. You can turn on hot water valve on in kitchen but you will have to thaw cold and hot line. Make sure you know where water shut off is to the house just in case a line breaks.

How do i remove grates

You mean the louvers? At the bottom? I wanted to clean my humidifier tray. It was hard to get to, and probably not meant to be done except by technician. It may not be necessary either-after doing it, I can say that-for anyone who doesnt have particular chemical sensitivities. All I found was rust & mineral buildup, possibly chlorine dust too. I dont think there was any bacteria which is usually a problem with cool air humidifiers. However, it was 12 screws, 6 on the grates and 6 on the detail above that. To access those the front panel must be taken off-2 screws.

This is a clear indication of what is called: "Hard Water"-- meaning that you have too many minerals in your drinking water!-- This problem is aggravated when you heat the water (as in your Hot Water Heate3r!)-- Heating causes the mineral (normally dissolved in the cold water)- to precipitate OUT when heated-- and thus they end up setting in your piping AFTER the heater.
Solution: YOu may have to install a water softener, to reduce the 'hardness' of your water.
Another aid, is lowering the water temperature of the hot water heater-- Can you do that, and still enjoy the bathing or showering with that water temperature? The lower the water temperature it is heated to, the fewer minerals will settle out in the piping after the heater. You must notice this problem in your Tea Kettles-- and your Coffee Maker?- Tell us more-- and we'll help you further.

Noritz tankless gas water heater. Hot water pressure is low. Unit does not "click" on when hot water is opened. No hot water.

Hi,
The unit is plugged up with mineral buildup from the water going through it... it will need to be cleaned internally....this is done by running an acid solution through it to clean out the mineral buildup...

Then it will work again...

My electrid rheem hot water heater makes a loud pop sound after using hot water to fill bath tub . Why?

Hi,
The sound is the water heating through mineral buildup in the bottom of the tank...
The water gets superheated (boiling) because the mineral traps it aroung the element for too long....then it makes the noise as it percolates there....

Water pressure has decreased and now heater only works once in a while

The unit is clogged with mineral buildup. You will need to pump an appliance cleaner or just vinegar through the unit for around 20 the 30 minutes to remove the buildup. Contact Bosch for replacement washers, you need them to reassemble the unit.

CALCIUM BUILDUP COMING OUT OF THE STEAM HOLES...

Hi, the other two responders were correct, use clear or filtered drinking water only. Also, use your iron until it runs dry and use burst of steam or self cleaning function to clear out the last bits of water, being sure it is empty before putting it away. Several cycles of this using and purging process will clean the iron without chemicals. Standing water that evaporates is just like a tea kettle with water left in it, all the white mineral deposits settle to the bottom, and the water dissolves the mineral salts, and when dissimilar metals are wet (think of a an old flashlight battery and the corrosion that occurs if left in storage.
