Question about Panasonic NN-P294SF Microwave Oven
Made in June 2006. Seems as if many people have had this same smoking issue. Tonight we microwave some corn for 3 minutes....threw in the green beans and set it for 3 minutes...hit start and after about 4 to 5 seconds smoke started rolling out of the bottom of the microwave. Took the microwave out to the garage for a retest....and sure enough...smoke rolled out of the bottom of the machine in 4 to 5 seconds each time. They say it is the inverter that is weak in these units. I am assuming this 1.5 year old microwave is history? Is it true? I had a Tappan microwave for over 11 years with no problem. What brand microwave is good to buy for durability and power(1300W+)?
The magnatron is covered by warranty for 5 years and I just spoke with an authorized Panasonic repair center who said the inverter is covered on this unit depending on the manufacture date, like april 04 to october 05 approximately.

In most cases, this is a problem with the inverter or a bad transfotmer.
Due to the lethal voltages used and produced, I do not recommend that an inexperienced person work on these.
I would recommend that you contact your nearest Panasonic-authorized servicer. You can find one here:
