Question about Computers & Internet

Configured an additional active partition on a sd card on my Winvista laptop already having an active C: partition. Now there's a paragon boot manager holdup during startup. help!!

Problem started when system attempted to reboot. Since then, it gets stuck at the Paragon Boot manager screen, where it does show it can recognise my C: partition as a WinVista one. There is also a message saying "the PC booting will be proceeded in 15...secs" 15...secs meaning it counts down to zero and restarts again from 15 instead of continuing the booting.

You may be able to fix by typing MSConfig in Start / Search. Choose boot. You can verify boot path, delete, and move positions. Be very careful. You can a critical choice.

Thanks 4 responding, Jose... But I'm unable to boot into Windows at the moment... It gets stuck just immediately after the Dell splash screen at startup. I mean, it doesn't even allow Windows to start loading!!! I can't even access the boot/startup options - the one u get by hitting F8 during startup which gives u the option to load "Last Known working Configuration"; startup in "Safe mode" or "Safe mode with command prompt", etc... Do u knw ANY other ways of accessing msconfig b4 Windows loads?

No. There could be some hardware issue. Try unplugging any extra USB items. The other option is to use a Windows install disc. Win 7 has a repair option and XP can be loaded as second image or on itself.

Thanks Jose! problem solved... by using the windows installation disc to access the windows recovery console. from there, i ran the bootrec.exe command and next the /fixboot cmd. immediately after that, restarted my laptop and all was well. once again, many thanks!

SOURCE: I installed Paragon Partition Manager

If I were you I would pull the harddrive out, slave it to another machine and save all your documents before putting your harddrive back in and doing a full Dell restore.
Any wrong move at this point is likely to damage the MBR and render your machine unable to boot up at all.

Dell error Ox0000225

An unexpected error has occurred.
Boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.

A general group of people will initiate a fresh install upfront. However, it is to inform you that the problem is not as severe as it seems. To recover from the situation, it would require a Windows installation disc, as you are already incapable to boot into Windows. Listed below are the possible solutions for this issue, depending upon the reason of its occurrence.
  • Rebuild Boot Configuration Data (BCD)
  • Configure Active Partition
  • Restore Master Boot Record (MBR)
Rebuild Boot Configuration Data (BCD)
The resolution is helpful, when your system is facing a spoiled Boot Configuration Data (BCD). In such a situation, it is recommended to rebuild this component of windows through command prompt. See below for a systematic procedure.
  • Insert Windows Installation Disk and Restart your computer
  • Select Time, Language, and click on the Next button
  • Click on the words stating Repair your computer in the lower left corner
  • Identify and access your system drive (For Example, C: D: E: etc.) and click Next
  • In the System Recovery Options box, choose Command Prompt
  • In the command prompt, type the command BOOTREC /REBUILDBCD and hit Enter
Configure Active Partition
The error 0xc0000225 may also result due to a wrong partition selected. The instance is that a user divides its storage device into several partitions. The BIOS must access the partition having system files on it (also called as System Drive). While accessing a wrong partition, it would end up in this issue.
  • Insert Windows Installation Disk and Restart your computer
  • Carry out the above given steps to reach System Recovery Options box
  • Among several system recovery options, choose Command Prompt
  • To set a correct partition, type the command line DISKPART and press Enter key
  • In the listed partitions, determine the one to be active and type following command line
  • SELECT PARTITION X (Let X be your desired active partition) and press Enter
  • Once the partition is selected, type the command line ACTIVE and then press Enter
  • Type QUIT and press enter to exit and then Restart the system
Restore Master Boot Record (MBR)
MBR is a boot sector containing information of logical partitions and file systems. An agitating MBR can also prevent you from normally booting into your Windows operating system. If this is the issue with your PC, try following steps to restore your MBR.
  • Insert Windows Installation disk and Restart your computer
  • Corry out the above given steps to reach System Recovery Options box
  • Among several system recovery options, choose Command Prompt
  • Enter the Diskpart and type the command line SELECT DISK 0 and press Enter
  • Now type LIST VOLUME and press Enter key to view a new list
  • Locate the CD/DVD-ROM under Type column and note down its letter under LTR column
  • Close Diskpart by typing Exit and pressing Enter.
  • Now access the CD Drive by typing F: and hitting Enter (Let F: be the CD/DVD-ROM letter)
  • Type and enter CD BOOT and then DIR to view the directory within the drive
  • Now type and enter BOOTSECT /NT60 SYS /MBR
  • Type Exit and press Enter
At the completion of process, you will see a success message saying, Bootcode was successfully updated on all targeted volumes. Now you must not have any issue while booting into your Operating system.

On setting my samsung RV510 laptop,i had a question do i want to divide my hard drive, iwrongly pressed the wrong option can i reverse this and how?

Hi michaelja277

You don't say which Operating System you use, so my answer will be presented in general, Windows terms. If yours is a non-Windows Operating System and my answer seems to be of some relevance to you, please consider applying the logic and principles involved here to your own Operating System and, if in doubt, please feel free to add a Comment or Clarification to this Question. Please include information about the type, model and specification of your computer and its Operating System. Doing so helps us makes faster, more accurate and more assured Remote Diagnostics leading to better quality and more useful Advice, Answers, Guidelines , How-Tos and Solutions.

If this was a brand new laptop and you were performing the initial configuration when the partition creation error happened, then you should be able to highlight the empty partition you recently created and delete it (you can only delete empty partitions but not those partitions containing your Operating System or your Samsung Recovery Files, otherwise you would lose them permanently).

To delete an empty partition in Vista and Win 7:

Hard Disk Options > single left click to highlight empty partition to be deleted > Delete.

To delete a partition in Win XP:

use Keyboard Down arrow to scroll down to empty partition to be deleted:

D > L

The free space will restore itself to its previous state, enabling you to configure the partitions in the
way you prefer.

If you are reinstalling a new Operating System from the beginning or reinstalling a corrupted one, then you can simply restart the computer and restart the boot from disc procedure again, delete the partitions you created and recreate them in the numbers and sizes you prefer.

If you have gone too far and are unable to undo what you've already done or have an already installed and configured Operating System, you can resize or reorganize you partitions with software such as (most are available in Free Download and/or Trial format):

Partition Commander (
Partition Magic (
Symantec PartitionMagic (
Partition Manager (

Inside your operating System, you can delete, create, recreate and resize non-active partitions (in other words excluding the partition in which the Operating System is installed.

hope this helps.

Is it possible to install windows xp 2 when there is already windows 7 is installed.i want to install both os running in my dell vostro 1015 laptop,

Yes you will have to format your drive and remove partitions, then create new partitions and add a boot up option menu. Then when you power on your computer it will ask if you want to boot Windows 7, or Windows XP. You will have to have both copies of Windows also your restore partition can't do this.

I installed Paragon Partition manger, and made another partition, now my windows 7 wont work. I have tried booting from a windows 7 disc and having it repair the boot, but it doesnt fix it and all I keep...

Try this freeware program: the partition you want to recover; which is the Windows one.  There'll be 1 partition of about 100Mb; the partition that you created, which you know the size of...and another one which is probably the Windows one.  Select it and recover.
Now the above program works up to Vista, but I haven't tried it with W7...if -before pressing the 'do it now' button- you get any sort of 'do not understand' errors, bail out and go to plan B...

Hiren's boot disk.  Download the ISO CD image file and burn it to a CD. Use the CD to boot up with, and included on the disc is pretty well every useful low-level repair tool known to mankind.

Good luck!
Please rate me if you found this useful.  Thanks.

Paragon 8.5 Special Edition Redistributioning partition sizes

Yes if it is taking this long then the drive has a fault on it of some sort, most probably bad sectors, I suggest you use a Boot DVD and THEN run the partitioning software get the UBCD, and that will allow you to boot and also has partition magic also. You have to download and burn the iso file to a CD/DVD, you may have to use a friends machine if yours can't.

How to use my usb port for booting my acer tm290 series?

First off your BIOS must have a "Boot to USB Hard Drive" option available. Then you need to configure the drive boot order; USB-HD -> CD -> IDE -> SCSI. Then the micro-drive must be formated with the "Boot" or "Active" partition flag enabled. If you are trying to boot Ubuntu there are several tools you can download that format the USB drive and set the boot flag for you.

Formatting and partitioning a Hard drive will wipe out any and all information. Much like erasing recording tape.
Please be careful when attempting this procedure.
Partitioning a drive usually happens before the formatting process. Any drive can have up to 4 partitions.
Only one partition can be designated as active (the boot partition) one of the 4 partitions can be designated as an extended DOS partition.
When installing an Operation system ie: Windows (OS) The OS will bring you through this process.
However, on the other hand if you have an additional drive installed and you want your PC to see it, depending on what Operating system you have, you must navigate to the "Disk Manager" via the computer manager in the controlsettings of the OS. to see if the drive is recognized by the OS.
If it is, Right click on the drive and request a partitioning of that drive. Once the partition is complete, then request to format. this will configure the drive for the file format ie FAT or NTFS. In most cases NTFS is the format you would select. Additionally, you'll be requested as to the type of drive Logical or extended.
What you'll be doing with the system depends on how you Hard drive (HDD) will be partitioned out.
Remember the boot or active partition is where your OS will be and will be seen first after the PC boots (starts) up.
If you are using the system for home use, one partition is all you'll need. Lastly, you don't need 4 partitions on your PC unless you plan to use separate drives for say... backups, or to consolidate files. A lot of info I know... but if you go with one partition that maybe all you need.
I can't fix this for you, but if I helped you get it fixed, please rate it as a fixya not a helpful rating. These ratings let me be allowed to help you and others in the future. If you need more help, feel free to keep asking, but keep the original information so I can see it.

2. At the bottom right handside of your screen where you have the time look for the two computer icon, right click it and go to connect to a network. On the screen that will pop-up you will see the wireless networks around you. Just select your network and connect to it.
