use these steps:
1- reinstall your operating system (OS).
2- after the OS installed , download and install a powerful anti virus(with latest updates) (like NOD32 ANTI Virus or Kaspersky etc)
3- start a full scan (in anti virus options).
4- reinstall your OS again and enjoy fast speed.
NOTE:always remember to use an updated anti virus on your Laptop.
and if your laptop worked slow again use this way:
1- start "RUN" from start menu.(if you are using windows 7 go to accessories)
2- enter "msconfig".
3- go to startup tab.
4- disable some installed software (like yahoo messenger or ID Manager etc) in start up but be careful not to disable windows applications.

Using a cooler fan...
Im guessing its not a battery problem?
Go to control panel, then to Power Settings
There should be laptop specific power settings based on how long things should stay on... try and set it to one of the built-in modes to reset everything.

The most common cause for laptops overheating is due to the location they are sitting while in use. I would recommend getting a cooling fan accessory that you can place your laptop on while you use it. Even having your laptop sitting on your lap will cause it to overheat because the cooling fan is on the bottom and it cant breath.
If you have an external cooling fan and it still overheats, make sure your PC fan is turning on. If its getting that hot you will more than likely hear the fan motor turning at a very high rate. Simply place your ear by one of the vent on the bottom of your PC.
If the fan is out, replacing these can be slightly complex if you are not comfortable taking your laptop apart. See if there is a local PC store in your area that may assist you with that. Most stores are happy to help out.
I hope this helps you,
