I tried purging, but the furnace still does not fire. The main fan blows cold air. The small fan does not start. Is this fan suppose to start?

you may need toi purge the line going to the gas vale inside of the furnace so that you get solid gas to it.

yes the combustion blower should be running before the gas valve will open. I've seen where there's debris stuck inside and the blower wheet will not come on. if you can try to remove the fan and see wat may be blocking the blower.

Carrier 58STA/STX furnace false starts even when off or temperature set lower than current.

Is it possible the drain is plugged? The newer furnaces have a moisture drain and will shut down if they are blocked., shutting them down and restarting will reset fault, but will come right back if not fixed.

33 is a limit switch open take your furnace doors off and there should be a wiring diagram. on this furnace the blower will run if this is open. check rool out swict and linits. it sounds like you have a problem with over heating. how does the fire look ? is the vent blocked ? things like thathttp://www.scribd.com/doc/20861415/Carrier-58pav-Service-Maint i think page 9 has falt codes

Your Carrier guys more than likely are Carrier dealers. I would get a second opinion. Most qualified HVAC techs can work on any and all brands. It doesn't need to be a Carrier dealer to work on a Carrier. AND, if they replaced the control board and didn't test the heat, that's a fault on their part. Anytime we change a board or even a thermostat, we check ALL modes and functions. SECOND OPINION!!!

My carrier 58sta furncace is blowing cold air constantly

Code 33 is "limit is open or flame switch is open"
FIRST make sure the filter is clean. Turn off unit then turn back on.
if it works but then later gives you a 33 code then you might have a dirty a/c coil (if you have a/c) that will cause the limit to open. 1st try that

Carrier 58 Series Furnace Blower Motor Won't Shut Off

Yes. If the high limit is tripped, the furnace will bring on the fan continuously until the limit resets. Often, they will not reset if tripped repeatedly. If the furnace is too large for your application, you probably are not able to move enough air to keep the heat exchanger cool enough.
