SOURCE: converting from 220 to 110 volts

Most brands of air comperssors are built to work on either 220 or 110 v. I believe that 220 v compressors are more efficient and draw less current and run cooler.
The more expensive compressors have a switch allowing for voltage selection. Still others will have a wiring diagram printed on the motor allowing voltage change by changing jumpers. Most all of the sears compressors that I have repaired were of single voltage with no other way to change except change motor. Do not worry however, you have the better motor. It is easier to convert the outlet plug to 220 by isolating the circuit and installing a 220 v breaker. enjoy

The needle valve that you see is the unloader which releases air pressure from the discharge line after set pressure is obtained. If air continues to leak after the compressor shuts off, the check valve installed in the tank is leaking air out of the tank. Follow the air discharge line from the compressor to the tank. There you will find a brass valve which is the check valve. Simple test is to remove the smaller airline (1/4") from the brass valve and check for air leaking. If leaking remove brass valve and check for debris under the white seat. If you cannot clean the valve, replace with generic check valve from It will cost less than factory part. Just order the valve considering the fitting sizes that you need. For exact replacement,( parts). If you sears model # begins with WL then your compressor is made by campbell hausfeld and parts may be ordered from Good Luck with you repair and email if you have more questions.

My 2.8kva yamaha generator cant start this 2.75hp air compressor. Q:will a 6000w inverter with 10,000 peak power have enought grunt to get it started and run?

Yamaha 6300 will produce 45.8 continuous amps using the 240 volt position , I use converter plug to a 50 amp 4 prong plug You did not specify the amps of your compressor but
25 amps on each 120 volt leg, equals to 50 amp 240 and I guarantee your compressor does not use that much. The 6300 weighs 200lbs and can be bought at National Supply on the internet delivered the cheapest of all suppliers 1-877-316-3954

Why the heck is my compressor turning on and off, and on and off, and on and off?!

Has the compressor unit been modified?
The compressor motor should be the kind of power it is rated for. If it is a 120 volt compressor motor, the power feed needs to be of 120 volts.
If it is a 240 volt compressor motor, the power feed needs to be 240 volts.
If the compressor says it is 120/240 volts, then that needs to be checked, the wiring diagram given for the voltage applied must be followed.
Wrong voltage to the motor will cause an overcurrent or overload on the motor and cause the motor protection device to short cycle the operation of the motor.

If the above is correct in the compressor wiring, check the pressure switch.
The pressure switch energizes and cuts power to the motor directly. Is the pressure switch contacts staying closed? Is the pressure switch reading the tank pressure? The pressure switch has springs keeping pressure for them to stay closed, in contact, and if the contacts are pitted or defective, intemitent contact may show as a result.
Personaly, I think you have the compressor connected to the wrong voltage.

How do you wire an air compressor from the wall to compressor?

Is it 120 volt only or you have a choice ?

You wire it for 240, if you have a choice

The wiring diagram is on the outside of the motor
or inside on the small cover, where the wires go to

You buy some 12/2 rubber cord & wire to the motor &
put a 240-20 amp plug on the other end

On the wall you mount a 1900 box & a cover with the
240-20 amp duplex

I want to run this compressor "RITIN RT2012" 2HP 12L (1.5kW) compressor. It's a 110V AC drive unit and I have 240V. Can I run it or do I need to convert the Power supply.

You can't just run it on the 240 Volt supply. Check the motor nameplate. If it says it is rated for 110/220 or 115/230, or 120/240 Volts, then it is capable of running at 240V. This will require a wiring change, and you may need a larger size power cord.
The electrical diagram should be on the motor name plate or under the cover to the electrical terminals on the motor.

I have a 25 gal. craftsman oilless air compressor. Runs for about 1/2 a minute & than kicks the breaker out.

Hello babeaton, several things can cause that, but, the most common thing is the regulator. let it run again and right ofter it kicks off feel the power cord and see if it's warm to the touch, if so it likely is the regulator. Breakers operate based on the amount of heat generated from current running through the cord/wires.
Good luck my friend!

You have to change the wires in the motor according to the wiring diagram on the motor before you can convert the motor to 120 Volt.

The standard colors you should use would be black and white for line and load and green for ground. If you just have a copper wire and it is not coated with a green coating then you will use the standard copper wire for ground.

Need to convert my 110 volt 15amp to 240 volt

You can buy a transformer which allows all 110v power tools to work from a 240v supply. You will also need to change the plug on the compressor to a yellow 110v type. You can buy transformers for around £25 and around £3 for the plug
