How to add new products to FixYa?

Hi.

Can you tell me is it possible for us, the experts, to add new products, as I find some of them not listed here?

If not, who is in charge of updating product database?

Hi Witchunter, It currently is impossible for Experts to add new products to the database. But FixYa is constantly adding new products, and will continue to do so in 2009. Cannot "Add a Product" in My Products


When adding a product you must choose a product from the drop down list. Start typing the brand (Samsung) then the model and then choose an item from the list.

How to add a product to Fixya that is not yet cataloged


"Add your Product" Feature can help you speed up the posting questions process and viewing issues to products similar to yours.
Once you add a product by choosing it from the drop down list, you will be able to view all questions regarding this product. You will also be able to follow up on your own questions.
Adding your products is entirely optional, if you do not wish to do so you may skip this part.
If you can't find your product on the list, please post your problem using the Ask box on the top of the page and follow the on screen instructions.
When you are asked to categorize your question and choose a product, please choose the closest category (if you can't find a specific product).
For example: If you have a 123xyz Samsung refrigerator but you can't find this specific model in the drop down list, please choose Samsung Refrigerators.
Your question will still be visible to all the relevant experts.
Please make sure that you add as many details to your question and include the model & brand. The more details, the easier it will be for the expert to assist and this is highly important regarding questions under a general category.

Since you problem was submitted, there have been some changes to help simplify asking for help on Fixya.

  1. Click in the "Post Problem" box at the top of most pages.
  2. Fill in your question. - Add as many details as possible as this helps Fixya Experts gather all the information they need to provide a detailed solution to your problem. The more details the better. Without enough details some problems cannot be solved.
  3. Enter your product or category. This helps to direct your question to the most experienced experts who are skilled in certain products or categories.

Hope those minor details help and you're able to post your problem and get the help you need.

Fixya won't let me add a product


Check the product name that it is typed correctly. If it doesn't work, select one of the listed products and see whether it matches your Laptop.

Do you have to be an official Expert on FixYa to add some bio info

You do not have to be an official Expert on FixYa to add your bio to your FixYa profile. FixYa is trying to grow as a community based site and it helps if members add a little bit about themselves.

Please refrain from posting sensitive information such as your telephone number or address.

What is the difference between adding "FixYa Web Site" as the product, as opposed to "FixYa FixYa Service"?


"FixYa Service" is the correct product to add. The FixYa support team checks this often. It is also always best to select a specific product when possible.
When asking a question, it is possible to either:
  • A) Select a product on FixYa from the drop down list (ensuring the question is delivered to the appropriate category of Experts and gets associated with the correct product).
  • B) Enter Free Text if the specific product can not be found (the more descriptive your question details the easier it will be for FixYa to send your question to the right Experts)
  • C) Select a category if the specific product can not be found.
FixYa Service is the product. All other variations are simply free text which will likely be directed to the Website category.
  • Remember, if suggested solutions are not accurate, be sure to click "No" where it asks if the solution was helpful. On the other hand, if they are helpful, click "Yes!"

How can you change the category-icon (i.e., the "product") of one of your previous questions?

Hi mampidog,

If you ask a question about a product, it will automatically be added to your "My Products". You can manage your alerts regarding these products here- http://www.fixya.com/MyAccount.aspx (My Products Alerts section). I do not believe there is any other way to add or remove products at this time.

I can't figure out how to add a new model to the product database in fixya so I can add an instruction manual for a model that has just been released?

At this time you cannot enter new products yourself. However, if you will send me a list of the products you would like added to the site, I will pass them along to the staff.

Who Answers Your Questions? If you’re wondering who it is that provides expert advice for the devices you own, it’s a team about about 30,000 different contributors. These contributors are average people like you who happen to know a little something about gadgets. Anybody can can suggest a solution for a problem that someone has posted, and then the community of FixYa rates the solution given as either “inappropriate,” “thanks for trying,” “helpful,” or “FixYa!” which is the best.

I clicked on Garmin, then I was able to browse through the list of different Garmin products to find the unit I own, the Garmin Nuvi 660. Once I found it, I could click on and then do the following:
  • search the Garmin Nuvi 660 GPS receiver knowledgebase
  • view problems/questions that have solutions
  • view problems/questions that don’t have a solution yet
  • post a new problem
  • subscribe to the product page via RSS
  • view tips and tricks (one tip in particular which explained how to do a full reset to original factory status was helpful)
  • view the WikiManual (if available)
  • See manuals and guides (if available)
  • View product specifications
  • View contact information
