Question about Whirlpool 25.4 Cu. Ft. Side-by-Side Refrigerator w/Thru-the-Door Ice & Water - Satina Stainless-Look

1 Answer

I have a Whirlpool mod. ED5LHEXD00 refrig. I left home for 3 weeks in Dec. with the house temp. set to 50 deg. F. I got home and discovered that the refrig./freezer was at room temp and all the food had thawed and spoiled. I raised the temp. in the house and started dumping and cleaning to try and get rid of the smell. I heard a click. the compressor kicked on and it started working again. Lights came on when I opened the refrig. door and there was no power failure. what's the problem?

If Fridge working fine now, the problem may be is Hydro Grid.

When the fridge just start, the compressor is running with high pressure of Freon. If Hydro power has voltage surge or power Off/On ( suddenly ), the compressor should be stuck, the overheat protection switch will actived, than fridge will stop working.

The noice of "click" - properly is overheat switch auto-reset.

SOURCE: refrigerator section gets real warm, food spoils

Hi,
First of all thank you for all the information you posted, it helps greatly. Make sure your lights turn off when you close the door, very important. Next, I would suggest looking into a cold control, part number 2325701, if you have to tap on it, or rotate it to start running it maybe sticking and will cause the problems you have today. The link below is the part you need and you can order from this site or go to your local part house and get the part.
www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Temperature-Control/2325701/1408480
You can by-pass the cold control by using a jumper, be doing this you will turn the unit into a total freezer though. Be aware this will test you problem, but not cycle at temperature as design. Behind the cold control is a adaptive defrost board, this controls your defrost cycle and could also create the same problem. If the unit gets stuck in defrost, it does not advance like a timer, just when the thermostat opens inside the freezer.
To prevent confusion, I would by-pass the cold control, watch for freezing, if the unit runs with not problem for at least 6 hours, the cold control should solve your problem.
Good Luck

Ge freezer temp changes from -3 to 44degs and the ice melts and runs on the floor. I replaced the main board about 2 yrs ago, help?

Self defrost mechanism appears to be ok sinc eyou can get down to -3 degrees. The culprit in this refrigerator is the temperature regulator or electronic thermostat in this box. It should not allow the temp to swing that drastically from one extreme to another.

Fraser Johnston Furnace - Not heating

Check the furnace filter to make sure its not dirty . Dity airvfilters can cause the furnace to overheat and shut off on a high temperature limit switch when the switchs cools down it resets but the furnace has to be shut off to reset the control board. Hope this helps.

Fridge and freezer at 50 degrees with settings on max cold. I can hear compressor cycling and all power is on. Suggestions?

Your Refrig/freezer should be set as follows:

Refrigerators: 36 to 40 degrees. Ideal temp is 37 Fahrenheit. Note: A temp above 42 degrees promotes bacteria.

Freezer: temp should be -5 to 6 degrees Fahrenheit. Ideal temp is 0 degrees.

Then check the door seals around the edges to see if any splits, tears or cracks have messed up the seal. This will cause your compressor to constantly run as it's trying to cool off the warm house is being sucked into the freezer (or Refrig). A sure sign the door seals are damaged is lots of ice in the freezer door area or water pooling in the bottom area of the refrigerator.

Wait about 4 hrs after you readjusted the Refrigerator/Freezer settings so everything settles down. If you still have problems then the coolant may need to be serviced (topped off) or the motor serviced/checked.

Don't procrastinate because a water heater and Refrig/freezer are the 2 largest energy users in your home- they run 24 hrs a day.

Hope this helps...

Could be either-- problem. Check for a cable not fully seated on the circuit board. If it is not a loose cable then the board will need to be repaired by Meade or someone who does electronic circuit repairs.

The light in the refriderator has no power getting to it and the temp display has no light showing

You have a Whirlpool refrig and it has a bad control board . This board is located behind the refrig , on the left side at the bottom , inside a plastic housing . This housing is held on by 2 screws at the bottom left . Remove the housing and the control board inside . Replace the board and reinstall the housing . It costs about $ 80.00 . When you go to get the part , take the complete model number with you so you get the correct board . This board controls the light for the refrig AND the lights for the control knobs PLUS other parts which work ok relating to the cooling .

Refrigerator not cold enough

try unplugging it for a day f you can as sometimes it ices around the coils blocking air flow(especially if it is left open for a while) in mine it was along the back bottom of the freezer and I was able to remove a panel and then use a blow drier but eventually it repeated itself and had toreplace a part down there
