Question about Linksys Wireless-G WRT54GS Router (e125894)
I get through most of the setup but then it says I must not have my router connected properley and it can't recognize it. But I do have it connected properley. What should I do?
If your connecting through the ethernet cable then you don't have to install the router on your pc. You just need to configure it for your wireless network.
You do this by using your web browser to access the setup screen using the routers default IP, which tends to be either:
When you get there you can configure how it gets an address from the ISP, how it assigns addresses to your PCs, your SSID (Network Name) and if you want to use a password to access the router or your wireless network. You also need to set what channel your using (1 - 10).
Have you done all this?

If you are using the cd that comes with the router, that is the problem. You do not have to use the cd. Go to the control panel and un-install the program that the cd installed. then:
Shutdown your PC. Unplug the power from the router and the cable modem.
Wait 30 sec. then plug in the power to the cable modem, wait 30 sec. then plug the power to the router. Wait till you have "Internet" light then restart your PC. The PC should pick up an IP address and you should be able to get on-line. This is if you have a cable service provider. If you have DSL, the router needs to be configured with PPOe.
