Question about Kenmore 23612 Progressive PowerMate Bagged Canister Vacuum
Kenmore powermate has new bag, but still does not vacuum effectively. Can feel a little vacuum, but not enough to take up pine needles.

If the roller brush is not spinning freely once you remove it from the Power Mate Jr., then I have discovered the solution! There are end caps at each end of the roller brush. They seem to be permanently attached, but they are not. There is an axle inside the roller that is permanently attached to one of the caps. Take two pairs of pliers, and grab each end cap with a pair of pliers. Then pull hard to take them off. Once they are off, you will find that there is a big glob of hair wrapped around the axle inside. Remove the hair. Then reassemble the brush by putting the end caps back on. Make sure, when you put the caps back, that they are aligned so that they will fit back into the slots on the Power Mate Jr. You have to push hard to get the caps back on, maybe tapping one of them with pliers.

I went to my local Sears store and the salesman there looked at my vacuum and was able to resolve the issue. There was a piece of wire that had been sucked into the machine that then blocked anything else from being vacuumed up.
Thanks for your help.

You have to take the light cover off (push in at the bottom on each side) and there are two screws.
Some models have pressure locks on the back of the power nozzel cover. Just use a screw driver.

There are two screws. Pry off the light bar on top by pushing against the sides, and you will see them inside just behind the light bulb.

I logged into the Kenmore website, entered the vacuum model no. and found that the bag has been superceeded by 20-50004, which appears to be available only from Kenmore. The belt required is #5270.
